Tournament & Prize Money Structures

Hi, I was wondering if this chip set would work ok for tournaments and if the Tournament and Prize Money Structures below look ok in your eyes? When should the low value chips be removed? Are there any guides for these type of things? Please tell me what changes you would make!

Paulson Pharaoh's & ChipCo Egyptian's Chip Set
------------------------------------------------------
$25 x 200 chips ($5000)
$100 x 200 chips ($20000)
$500 x 100 chips ($50000)
$1000 x 50 octagons ($50000)
$5000 x 25 plaques ($125000)

Buy-In Examples
--------------------
25 Players: Each player start with $1000 - 8 x $25 chips and 8 x $100 chips.
10 Players: Each player start with $2500 - 20 x $25 chips and 20 x $100 chips.
5 Players: Each player start with $5000 - 40 x $25 chips and 40 x $100 chips.

Tournament Structure
-------------------------
Level 1 $25-25 (10 min)
Level 2 $25-50 (10 min)
Level 3 $50-100 (10 min)
Level 4 $75-150 (15 min)
Level 5 $100-200 (15 min)
Level 6 $150-300 (15 min)
Level 7 $200-400 (20 min) (remove $25 chips)
Level 8 $300-600 (20 min)
Level 9 $500-1000 (20 min)
Level 10 $1000-2000 (25 min) (remove $100 chips)
Level 11 $1500-3000 (25 min)
Level 12 $2000-4000 (25 min)
Level 13 $3000-6000 (30 min)
Level 14 $5000-10000 (30 min)
Level 15 $7000-14000 (30 min)

Prize Money Structure
-------------------------

I would consider making the early rounds longer in duration than the later rounds - with 2 or 3 players left - you play more hands than with 10 players at a table in the early rounds.

I would eliminate the 150-300 level and remove the 25s one level earlier.

With 10 players and 2500 chips there will be 25,000 in chips in play - rounds 10 and 11 the big blind is around 10% of the total chips - eliminations will go very quickly at that point.

Something like this? ------->

Level 1 $25-25 (35 min)
Level 2 $25-50 (35 min)
Level 3 $50-100 (30 min)
Level 4 $75-150 (30 min)
Level 5 $100-200 (25 min) (remove $25 chips)
Level 6 $200-400 (25 min)
Level 7 $300-600 (20 min)
Level 8 $500-1000 (20 min)
Level 9 $1000-2000 (15 min) (remove $100 chips)
Level 10 $1500-3000 (15 min)
Level 11 $2000-4000 (10 min)
Level 12 $3000-6000 (10 min)
Level 13 $5000-10000 (5 min)
Level 14 $7000-14000 (5 min)

Is there any use with the first level ($25-25) ? And if there's only $25.000 on the table there's not much use having $125.000 in plaques is there? Maybe I need to think the whole thing over...

I like your blinds, very close to what I use. I agree though, the timing of the levels is goofy. I'd much prefer longer early levels and then quicker levels at the end to drive to a finish.

FWIW, I start out with all 20 min levels. I've thought about making the earlier levels maybe 25, but 20 seems to work. Once things go heads up or after 3 hours, I make all levels 10 min. By then you're down to the last few and those hanging around are ready for a new game.

You're going to have an overkill of plaques with your setup. If you want to get them out more, you'll need to raise the 10 player game to maybe T4000 or more.

I didn't look closely at your payout schedule, but here's what I do:
<8 players - 70%-30%
8-12 players - 50%-30%-20%
12-16 players - 50%-25%-15%-10%
>16 players - 45%-25%-15%-10%-5%

It's a lot of payout places, I know, but I prefer to pay out more with the philosphy that deeper cashes will keep people coming back. Especially the fish!

This is what we use - with less than 10 we cut back to 15 min per round.

Number of Players 10 Time per Round 0:20
Buy In $100 Prize pool $1,000
Starting Chips 5000 Chips in Play 50,000

Round SB BB Ante Time Total Time Min pot
1 25 50 0 0:20 0:20 75
2 50 100 0 0:20 0:40 150
3 75 150 0 0:20 1:00 225
4 100 200 25 0:20 1:20 350
5 200 400 50 0:20 1:40 700
6 300 600 75 0:20 2:00 1050
Color up and Race for Green 25s
7 400 800 100 0:20 2:20 1400
8 500 1000 100 0:20 2:40 1700
9 600 1200 200 0:20 3:00 2200
10 700 1400 200 0:20 3:20 2500
11 800 1600 300 0:20 3:40 3000
12 900 1800 300 0:20 4:00 3300
Color up and Race for Black 100s
13 1000 2000 500 0:20 4:20 4000
14 1500 3000 500 0:20 4:40 5500
15 2000 4000 500 0:20 5:00 7000
16 3000 6000 500 0:20 5:20 10000
17 4000 8000 500 0:20 5:40 13000
18 5000 10000 1000 0:20 6:00 17000

8+ players
1st 55.00% $550
2nd 32.50% $325
3rd 12.50% $125
100.00%

We have never gone past round 13 (4:20 total time) and never colored up black with more than 2 left.

Thanks! Maybe this would work better? ------>

650 Chip Set
------------
$25 x 200 = $5000 (chip split players/bank = 200/0)
$100 x 250 = $25000 (chip split players/bank = 200/50)
$500 x 100 = $50000 (chip split players/bank = 50/50)
$1000 x 100 = $100000 (chip split players/bank = 50/50)

$10000 Buy-In (2-10 Players)
----------------------------
Each player starts with $10000

20 x $25 = $500
20 x $100 = $2000
5 x $500 = $2500
5 x $1000 = $5000

$5000 Buy-In (11-20 Players)
----------------------------
Each player starts with $5000

8 x $25 = $200
8 x $100 = $800
4 x $500 = $2000
2 x $1000 = $2000

Minimum Chip Count in the Bank before the tournament starts
-----------------------------------------------------------
0 x $25 = $0
50 x $100 = $5000
50 x $500 = $25000
50 x $1000 = $50000

Tournament Structure
--------------------
Level 1 $25-50 (30 min)
Level 2 $50-100 (30 min)
Level 3 $75-150 (30 min)

(replace $25 chips with $100 chips)

Level 4 $100-200 (25 min)
Level 5 $200-400 (25 min)
Level 6 $300-600 (25 min)
Level 7 $400-800 (20 min)
Level 8 $500-1000 (20 min)
Level 9 $800-1600 (20 min)
Level 10 $1200-2400 (15 min)

(replace $100 chips with $500 chips)

Level 11 $2000-4000 (15 min)
Level 12 $4000-8000 (15 min)

(replace $500 chips with $1000 chips)

Level 13 $6000-12000 (10 min)
Level 14 $8000-16000 (10 min)
Level 15 $10000-20000 (10 min)

Hmm... I think I messed up the $5000 buy-in... I better make it a $4000 buy-in to make sure there's enough $500 chips in the bank at color-up...

Anyway, if we ignore the $5000 buy-in for now, it seems I will have just the right amount of each denom at each color-up with above chip set and tournament structure

I will have a closer look tomorrow at what you have posted so far. It's one a'clock in the morning here so I'm gonna call it a night.

In the mean while let me know what you think of my new tournament structures etc above!
