Tourney with cash chips?

So, I was thinking about running a $25 buy-in tourney, but with a twist, using my PCA cash set, and giving out $25 in chips. Anybody ever do this? Could it work? I need a tourney structure suggestion, as well as starting stack breakdown.

I anticipate 10 players, will allow rebuys, and here are the denoms I have.

1 rack .25's
1 rack .50's
3 racks 1's
3 racks 5's

I have more, but seriously doubts 25s or hundos will need to be in play.

I'd like the tourney to run 3 hours, I think. Ideas?

Re: Tourney with cash chips?

Can't help with specifics right now, but basically you want to run a T2500 with 25/25 (100 BB) or 25/50 (50 BB) as the first blinds level, and move the decimal point over two two places.

Good luck and have fun!

That's what I was thinking, Abby, but couldn't wrap my head around it. Here's what the BV suggests: Thoughts on that? Room for improvement?

The WSOP in it's younger days used to do this. Buy in for $10K cash get 10K in cash chips. So yes, it has been done and it can work.

Can't help with the rest of your questions though.

Re: Tourney with cash chips?

I'd insert a 5-10 level after level 9 because the levels get very aggressive there, but that would push the total time to a little over 3 hrs.

Re: Tourney with cash chips?

I've done this before with nickels quarters and dollars. It was a T10.00 tourney. Playing with small cash chips is no different than playing with your "tournament" set.

Really, any tourney can be played with any denoms, you're just scaling the blind structure up or down. Keep the buy-in at $25 or whatever you normally play at. You don't have to give out $25 in chips, though. Think about your normal home tourneys. You play with 500s and 1000s, but that has nothing to do with what you bought in for. Same with micro set. But if you want the chips to represent the "actual" amount, then give everyone $25 in chips. This will be a T25 tourney then.

Given the set you have, I would throw out the 0.50. Keep the 0.25, 1, 5 and add the 25 (for rebuys or if you have large number of people). For a blind structure, go to blindvalet and enter tourney for 2500 starting stack and SB of 25. Use the 25-100-500-1000 chips. Divide the blind structure by 100.

Since that structure uses 2X chip from 500 to 1000, the progression might not be ideal. If you really want to create your own structure based on the chips you have I would look at this thread. It's what I used to creat my T10. Post #3 is the advice I followed.

Re: Tourney with cash chips?

I tweaked the structure from the BV a bit. Any thoughts on this? (I'm looking for max rebuys, which is why they end so late. Why people will not buy into a $50 tourney, but will rebuy 3x in a $25 tourney, I will never know. )

.25/.25
.25/.50
.50/1
.75/1.50
1/2
1.50/3
2/4
2.50/5 – rebuys will end after this level
3/6
4/8
5/10
6/12
8/16
10/20 – I expect things to end at this level, depending on amount of rebuys
12/24
14/28

Re: Tourney with cash chips?

I like your new structure.

Re rebuys, I agree, but maybe it's because of the variance -- one mistake or bad beat and you're out. I'm intrigued by the new structure that's been going around. Don't know what it's called, triple chance or something? The entry fee entitles each player to three starting stacks. Players decide when to add the second and third stacks. One person could bust out twice before asking for his third stack, while another might want to start out with all three stacks. Everybody would have the same skin in the game, and players might be willing to pay a higher buy-in.

Re: Tourney with cash chips?

Thanks for the comment about my structure, abby. I appreciate it.

The rest of your comment is intriguing... I haven't heard of that. I will have to do some looking around to read up on it. I might have to introuduce something like that for variety...
