Breakdowns of smallish sets (for max. 12 player tourney)
OK, here's the drill:
We usually play STT's. We have about 8-10 players every time, on some very rare occasions we might have 11 or 12 players. With 11 players we start still in one table. If we have 12 players, we start on two 6-handed tables. We start from 25/50 blinds and go up from there. Antes usually kick in blind level 4. Tourneys usually last for about 5-6 hours. No rebuys.
With this enourmous amount of sets around, I know I have to buy some set for every now and then.
What, in your opinion, would be the best breakdown for the sets, if I want to buy sets, which have:
a) 300 chips
b) 400 chips
c) 500 chips
For clearance, let's assume that we will have 12 players.
I ask, because otherwise, I will buy wayyyyyy too many chips per set.
Thanks for help.

Re: Breakdowns of smallish sets (for max. 12 player tourney)
this is my breakdown for 12 players with 8/8/4/2/2 starting stacks (deep - 300 BBs; just subtract the two T5ks if you want the more traditional 100 BBs):
100 (25)
120 (100)
80 (500)
60 (1000)
40 (5000)
obviously i have more than i need of some of the denoms (especially the T5ks), but i just round up to the next 20 to fill out the row for when i rack them up. if you do a search i know you'll find a 300 chip breakdown someone posted recently, but i can't remember if it was a 10 or 12 person structure.

If you don’t want the table to keep exchanging all the time, you should at least have an 8-8-8-5 breakdown.
12 players minimum with an 8-8-8-5 breakdown =
25 – 96
100 – 96
500 – 96
1000 – 60
Total – 348
With color ups and rounding:
25 – 100
100 – 120
500 – 100
1000 – 80
Total - 400

x2, plenty of chips for both, playing and chipping up, 400 was my "gut instinct" for a smallest set also.
When I say "gut instinct", I mean I figured out a breakdown for somebody a few weeks back, and 400 is what it came out as, lol.

nope, but have to make some adjustments. I can't in any way explain to my fiancée why I have to buy another chip carrier in every 2-3 months. I may get away easier, if I buy just smaller sets....

Thank aj, steven and j
Looks like 400 chips is the amount I start aiming when buying new sets to this purpose...

Yeh, I won one, and I've already upped it to 1000 chips (last 300 are coming from Smitty right about next week).
I've gotten my chips from 1 155 to about 3 500 after that one, since joining here in August. So, I think I at least have to try to buy smaller sets...
