Will this work for a structure and starting stack?

25/50 starting blinds. Roughly double every half hour. 20 people. Starting stacks....

8 x 25
8 x 100
2 x 500
2x 1000

4000 starting in chips. I know it's a small stack (only 20 chips) but in terms of blinds to amount, it ought to work, yes?

Should be okay, but I would prefer something like 12-12-5. You just have to make change more often that's it.

Stick with the tried-and-true 8x8x8x, always works well for a T5000.

I often use that structure but I go 4x 500 for T5000 total to start.

Nothing wrong with 80BB starting stack. With that structure it should last 3.5-4 hours. I would rather shorten the blind levels and have a smoother structure. Something like this with 20 minute levels would give you a smoother structure and the same amount of play:

Blind Structure
Level Small Blind Big Blind
1 25 50 -
2 50 100 -
3 75 150 -
4 100 200 -
5 150 300 -
6 200 400 -
7 300 600 -
8 400 800 -
9 600 1200 -
10 800 1600 -
11 1200 2400 -
12 2000 4000 -
Level Time = 20 minutes
Total Chips in Play = 80000
Starting Chips = 4000
Chip Distribution (per player)
8 x 25 chip(s)
8 x 100 chip(s)
6 x 500 chip(s)

Re: Will this work for a structure and starting stack?

I recently started going with 12-12-5 instead of 8-8-8. It was easy to remember but I have found that people are making change a lot less often.

I'm not a big fan of any structure where the blinds roughly double. Even if you extend the length of the blind levels to compensate, it has a much bigger impact on the person who is the first BB after the increase.

Re: Will this work for a structure and starting stack?

I agree with Biceman, I like slower increases of the blinds, I would make them 20 minutes and go with JD Roark structure.

I also like the 12-12-5 better than the 8-8-8. I do 16-16-8 for our 6K buyin games (and the base for my 10k and 20K stack games). I love lots of chips in play so it works for me.

Re: Will this work for a structure and starting stack?

Ok guys, thanks for the thoughts. I was primarily concerned about the starting stack - I kind of need 8/8/2/2 simply because of the number of chips I have and it will be tough to get more for the particular set I am thinking of.

As for the structure, I agree and usually up them every 20 minutes and throw intermediary levels in there rather than doubling. I just threw the "roughly double" out there cause it was easier.
