Just wondering if anyone plays a tourney with their cash sets?

Like the topic says, does anyone here ever play a tourney game with their cash sets?

I have so many cash chips, If ever I need to host 1 giant game with like 100 people, I think I could supply them and still have a bunch of chips left over with the amount of cash chips I have.

Is this ok to do? Would anyone ever play .25/.50 blinds for the 1st round action?

I guess if your cash set is also your tourney set this would apply to you....but I think most of the people here know what I'm asking.

Re: Just wondering if anyone plays a tourney with their cash sets?

i don't see why not?

i do the same style of blinds
25/50
50/100
75/150
100/200
200/400 etc. i Usually do 5000 in chips, if you charge $50 for your buy in you could litterally just give them $50 cash chips but only honor them to the winner for example.
so this blind level is the same
.25/.50
.50/1
.75/1.50
1/2
2/4
etc

i'd say this is how the majority of home games are played actually with the denom chips without dollar signs, the numbers could mean whatever people decide.

The only downside of giving out your cash chips for a tourny is having to count them all at the end before u start the cash game.

Re: Just wondering if anyone plays a tourney with their cash sets?

We actually do the reverse and play cash games with tourney sets quite often since most of our the folks who host our home games have tourney rather than cash sets (and nobody but me has more than one set).

if they have T5 chips they are .05 cents
T25 is .25 cents
T100 is $1
T500 is .50 cents or $5 depending on the stakes
T1000 is $10 or .10 cents again depending on stakes

We used to do that. T200 starting with 1/2 blinds.

Re: Just wondering if anyone plays a tourney with their cash sets?

As guinness said - T200 with $1/$5/$25 as T1/T5/T25

Earlier this week on a business trip I used my $25/$100/$500 Cleos (which we use for up to T5000 tourney) in a cash game but $25=25c / $100 = $1 / $500 = $5

Go for it.

Did this for years. Before the days of multiple chip sets.

This is the only problem using your cash set for a tournament, especially a big tournament (you mentioned ~100 people). Obviously if it is a smaller group of friends you most likely wouldn't have any concerns, but in a huge group there are bound to be some people you don't really know...and then what are you going to do when some $25 or $5 chips are missing at the end of the tournament and you want to start up a bunch of cash game tables using those same chips?

I would be wary of dishing out my cash chips unless you did what someone else suggested which was giving them the exact dollar amount as the buy-in for the tournament ($50 gets $50 in chips). Of course even then you would still be in trouble if there were missing chips at the end of the tournament. You would have to withhold some of the tournament purse to cover the "bank" in case those missing chips show up later in the cash game...basically, I would really avoid doing this for a large tournament.

Re: Just wondering if anyone plays a tourney with their cash sets?

I've done both. It's been a long time since I've I played in a game where the same chips were used for both tournament and cash games (not my game, of course).

Re: Just wondering if anyone plays a tourney with their cash sets?

LOL, I'll be doing it tonight. Should be a great game, even with slippery slugged tourney chips being used as cash denoms.
