Re: Just wondering if anyone plays a tourney with their cash sets?

I've gotten so complacent with my high denom tourney's that I've been ignoring my cash sets. Previous posters are correct; it should be no big deal re-working the structure. It's funny since i've been thinking this week how to get a regular cash game up and running. Maybe I don't have to....

Thanks Guys

Re: Just wondering if anyone plays a tourney with their cash sets?

Bump...

So I recently bought 300 clay chips. Good enough for 7 players

It's a cash game set.
150 x $1
150 x $5

For 7 players I can provide

20x $1 = $20
16 x $5 = $80

Starting stacks of 36 chips equaling $100 per person

Now my question is, Would anyone ever play a tournament game, with $1 and $5 chips?

Is it too low denominations, does it not seem serious?

I realize also that blind schedule would have to be slow, probably like 20 minute per level due to the 2 denomination set.

It can absolutely be done. Blinds of 1/2 with a $100 stack is just like blinds of 25/50 with a $2500 stack - in other words, it can be done very easily and works well. If you want to stretch it a bit farther, start with blinds of 1/1 for the first 15-20 min.

We do it all the time on vacation when I only bring one set of chips and play with the kids.

Just wondering if anyone plays a tourney with their cash sets?

Tourney chips are more or less virtual anyway and only represent values in relation to one another so what difference does it really make? A t1 to t5 chip ratio is just as valid as is a t100 to t500 one. As far as serious goes, if some players have a hard time taking it seriously just because it's a bit unusual, then all the better for those who don't.

Re: Just wondering if anyone plays a tourney with their cash sets?

Yes, of course this can and has been done. When you want to play poker, you use what's at hand. Humans are remarkably adaptable creatures.

Seriously, I've played in tournaments where the tournament values of the chips were 100 times the printed value. No problem at all. My personal preference is to adjust the chip values in order to use familiar blinds schedules.

Re: Just wondering if anyone plays a tourney with their cash sets?

Actually one of the most fun tournaments we've had was STT as a "cash value" tournament with our cash chips.

Everyone bought in for $50, and got .50, $1, and $5 chips that added up to $50 from our ASM cash set. We started with .50/$1 blinds.

What was really cool was with the final 2 or 3 players as they bet, were betting along the lines of "I raise $30" and pushed $30 worth of chips infront of them.
