Heads Up Tournament This Saturday

Well I am going to host my 3rd HU Tourney this weekend. Here are the details...

Buy in for $20- includes Hot Dog Snack at 10:00pm, and $5 in cash chips.

First Round Single Elimination, remaining rounds Double Elim all the way back to a true Champion (with 8 players I think it will take 5 hours)

Minimum of 8 players, I have 3 on the list right now, and it will be a first come first seated event. All other players may participate in the cash game that should be running the entire time after the first round is completed.

Blinds (will be reset for each round)
T10,000 starting stack
10min levels until the final match which will be 15min each
100-200
200-400
300-600
500-1000
700-1400-100
1000-2000-200

In previous events the matches lasted an average of 40min I expect this to be the same this time around...except for my matches....I hope to get those done much sooner! HHAHAHA!! Hopefully I am still in it after the first round!

The first year I finished 3rd out of 8, and last year I chopped it and I had 12 in attendance, I ran 3 pools of 4 and then the winners of the pools played, this made for a really long night and after it got down to me and the other guy he wanted to go home....well it was nearly 3am, so we chopped it.

I will be taking a bunch of pics because it will be the first time I have had the hybrids and the fauxs in play at the same time! LOTS O PR0N!!! I will also have my garage set up a little differently so for those of you that have seen my normal layout this will be a little different, I will be using long tables for the tournament instead of my round tables, and the round tables will be strictly for cash games.

I hope to have all the tables set up Friday night so look for some pr0n of that late that night!!

Oh and if anybody is close to Williamsport and you want to make the trip let me know and I will reserve a seat for you!!

Re: Heads Up Tournament This Saturday

Well I looked at my schedule for the week and I was pretty sure that I wouldn't have time to get everything set up Friday so I did it today. Now I also host a Thursday night game with 7 players so setup isn't going to be in the way.

Things I checked off the list today...

Got chips and soda at the store.
2 new lights hung over where the HU tables will be.
Tables set up and covered (cheapo felt that I hope to change this summer)
Chips set in starting stacks and racked.
Bracket Finalized and rough copy drawn on paper- 8 players have committed to playing, if I get more than 8 that commit I will open the bracket to 10 by adding 2 prelim matches- Loser of that Match will get 1/4 their buyin back.
Cards on tables.
Tournament Director File created and modified- 9 rounds total (but 2 really shouldn't be used....but you never know-I will post this later, because its late and I need to get some sleep.)
iPod playlist created,

Here are some pics....I will post more from Saturday (Final Set Up, Pre-Tournament Cash Game, Tournament Pics, and Post Game Pics)

The tables...its a little hard to see them, but there are two long rectangular tables there and two benches under them for the guys who get stuck along the wall.

The Cash Game Table....depending upon how many people actually show I may need to set up an additional round table...I will wait until that night to decide about that table.

Workbench where the TD on two monitors will be displayed, also the food will be here...

The Chips and Cards....Fauxs Baby!! Oh and a setup of Copags for each pairing as well....they are all different I will post pics of those after everything is set up.
Breakdown: T10K Starting Stack
20 Black T100
8 Purple T500
4 Yellow-Black T1000
(I know these are Fauxs..there Monacos, but remember at one time there weren't any yellows on the market, and dyeing hadn't been thought of yet....during that time I purchased 150 of these and 1.25" labels so I am gonna keep using them for a while)

Thanks for checking these pics out! More to come...

Yeah I am feeling really good about the setup...this isn't my first rodeo

I really wanted to get everything in order so that on Saturday I can be worry free and hopefully win this sucker!! I have had strong showings in the previous years and could have won it last year but I don't want to leave any questions about it this year!!

Oh and I will be posting lots of pr0n this weekend!!

Re: Heads Up Tournament This Saturday

I was planning a HU tourney for Sat. Figuring approx. 1 hr per round and 9 rounds in the double elim format, I was planning for a 2pm start time to allow for a 16-player field including a dinner break. The start time seems to be giving some people trouble, so I'm probably going to have to cancel for this weekend and try to reschedule in June. A regular start time of 8pm would commit people to playing until 5+ am if they go all the way. The other alternative is to split the tourney over 2 days which would require those that make it through the early rounds to come back on another day, potentially causing other problems. I'm looking for suggestions. WWYD?

Re: Heads Up Tournament This Saturday

Well....if you definitely have 16 committed to playing then try to work out a 2 day format. The only problem now is that your looking at getting people to commit to 2 days and if their consecutive days or weekends it might be hard for everyone to make it. I know I couldn't my group of guys to commit to two weekends in a row, we all have family stuff to work around.

Another option is to make that first round a single elimination round, give the loser a portion of their buy in back which could be used as start up money for a cash game.

Another possible option, which will require some organization, is to have all the players coordinate their games. Follow me on this one....(I read about this from member somewhere but have no idea who it was or where it was)...You first have a meeting with all your players and set up a cash game or tournament to get everyone to attend. Then you lay out the rules, each pairing will be required to meet up at a time they both agree on and play out their match. The match must be completed by a designated date like within a week or so then they report the results back to you. You inform them of their next match and again they set up a time/place with their new opponent and play out the match. You keep doing this until you get to your semifinal matches (basically the last few rounds) which could then be held somewhere and everyone can attend and watch the few remaining matches while playing in a side game of some kind.

Now the organization part comes down to the players getting together, having chips, cards, blinds, timer, etc., and then finally reporting the results to you. Getting all that stuff to happen would require some motivated players....

What would also be kind of cool with this format would be to have all the matches be best of three rounds!! Then you could just host the final match and play it out as a best of three match!! WOW....that would take a lot of time! But it would be so cool all at the same time!!

That was just a few ideas off the top of my head/remember reading about, if I think of any others or come up with something different I will let you know.\

Re: Heads Up Tournament This Saturday

I just filled up the roster with 8 spots.

I got a quick question for those following this thread....

I had a few people who attended last year claim they were not attending this year due to the fact that they think Head's Up is all luck and no skill.

How would you respond to this??
