I want to host a 10 person poker games. Cash games. No Tourney.
$100 buy ins with only 2-100 re buys. How Many chips do i need and what should I give the player. So they come in lay $100 down and I give them a ziplock bag with what denomination of chips and how many.

ok...i have questions for you...

why have a limit on number of buy-ins at a cash game? that never happens - if someone wants to put more money in play after getting felted 3 times you wouldn't let them?

what type of poker? Hold 'em? Omaha? 7 Card Stud? Razz?

what limits? fixed limit? spread limit? no limit?

what's with the ziplock bag? people do that with tournaments, don't they?

Re: How Many Chips Do I Need?

probably 800 chips will do it.

Im assuming 100BB at 100NL.

I would use:

20 x $0.50
30 x $1
12 x $5

and use $100 chips, or 5x $20 chips for rebuys, and let people cash up.

I agree with the "dont limit re-buys" rule aswell, seems absurd to me.

Re: How Many Chips Do I Need?

yeah, you don't want the fish to stop playing by limiting how many times they can reload chips.

a better way to do it is to limit when/how much they can rebuy.... usually you can rebuy anytime up to a maximum total it would bring your chips to, roughly around 20% more than the initial rebuy. for example, at the MGM, you buy in for $200, play a few hands, and are now at $130. you can buy another $100 in chips to bring it up to $230 as they will let you top up to a max of $239. it's not always advantageous to play short-stacked...

Re: How Many Chips Do I Need?

what linits are you playing?

1/2 nl i would guess, but maybe you are doing 3/6 limit or 2/4 pot limit.

if 1/2 no limit I would say

starting stacks
1 x $25
13 x $5
10 x $1

use more $25 for rebuys

chip count
200 x $1
240 x $5
50 x $25
10 x $100

500 chips total

Re: How Many Chips Do I Need?

IMO for a cash game the first thing* you need to figure out (or agree on with your group) is the blind level. I assume you are playing 50¢/$1.00 blinds. Is that right? Because if you are playing $1/$2 or 25¢/50¢ then the chip answers would be different.

Second is buy-in. For a 50¢/$1 game, $100 would be the typical buy-in. And rebuys of any amount up to $100 that they have left in their pocket after you take their original buy-in. Decide whether they can re-buy only when they bust out, or when they get down to some level (like $30-$50).

Then you can decide on starting stack of chips, and extra chips for re-buys.

For a 50¢/$1 game, you should have 25¢ or 50¢ chips. Assuming you have 50¢ chips, I would start each person with something like this:
- 10 x 50¢ (not too many, since they're only used for blinds. If you only have 25¢ chips, use 12-20)
- 30 x $1
- 13 x $5
That's a big stack of 53 chips.

For re-buys, I would not give out any more 50¢ chips, but mostly $5 chips or with 1-2 $25s. After someone re-buys, let them get change at the table from another player -- there will be lots of $1s and 50¢ on the table.

Good luck and have some fun!

* I guess the real first thing is which game you are playing. I'm assuming No Limit Hold 'em. If it is Limit, then the chip stacks/denoms will change.
