I'm planning a headups tournament this summer for only 16 guys but it will be single elimination. We are hoping to have 8 guys play at a time and a separate, low limit cash game going on for the other 8. That way guys can buy in from the heads up as their matches are finished.

I have run two of these, 1 with 8 players double elim, and 1 with 13 double elim. The first went much smoother. Here is a link describing the development of the format I used as well as ky70.
