Relaxed HORSE structure

This is based on abby99's structure, but decelerated to be not as aggressive as hers from level 8 onward. We used her structure for the recent SoCal HORSE meetup, and while it worked out well for the most part, the progression seemed rushed starting at level 11. I should mention that abby99 said she needed it to accelerate the tourney at from level 8 forward for her specific event, so I should have taken that into consideration before trying it.

I will most likely be organizing another STT, so I'm considering the following adjustments:
  • I will keep the same Sbet/Bbet for the transition between O and R, since the addition of the antes/bring-ins maintains the progression in cost to play. The only exception will be at level 18 onward, to help with the 1/2 bet increments (and to get the cash game started ).
  • For the transition from E to H, the Sbet/Bbet becomes the SB/BB, to keep the progression going for the Bbet. This remains constant.

I think that with a T3000 STT (or MTT, for that matter), the length of the tourney is still reasonable (should still end around level 18, 4.5-5 hours ). I also think it will prevent the perception that the game is reduced to a blind-off due to hampered M after level 11. What do you think?

Re: Relaxed HORSE structure

I'll have to give this structure a try in my next H.O.R.S.E. tournament. I used abby99's structure last time and felt the same way you did. My tournament actually ended at level 14. However, we only started with T2000 in chips. We base our starting chips on the amount of the buyin (T200 per dollar) similar to the way the WSOP does it (T2 per dollar). That was a $10 buyin tournament because we are just getting used to playing H.O.R.S.E. Next time (end of June), the buyin will be $15 (T3000). In September, I am having a $30 (T6000) buyin H.O.R.S.E event. That one will be really fun!!

For those of you who haven't explored the mixed games, you don't know the fun you are missing!!

Sorry to get off on a tangent!

I will post how the June tournament goes after it happens (if I remember).
