Chips: 473 | | | How many XBB for tournament start is good?? Hi guys, I've seen different ratios of Starting Stack/ Big Blind , 50x, 100x, 200x . I'm thinking 50x makes the tourney go faster vs. 200x . Are there other nuances ? I've designed a tourney if anyone has time to comment on it. thanks http://www.chiptalk.net/forum/home-g...me-advice.html

once you plan to do just one, i'd generally go with as big a starting stack as you can fit into the night. so with one table i'd go deeper and the bigger the tournament was the more i'd move towards 100. |

Sometimes 200BB to start: T10,000 tourney with the same blinds (25/50)

I think 50 is too small unless you're in a hurry.
Of course the blind levels and the amount of time at each level has an impact. You're really tweaking all three of these in sync. |

Chips: 933 | | | Re: How many XBB for tournament start is good?? depends on what i am going for. for a nice deepstack tournament where you want skill to be the main focus, i go with 200x bb.. 10k starting stack with blinds 25/50 to start. that is what I use in my home tournaments. A few people didnt like it because it takes too long to play, so they dont come any more.. |

with 1 table I usually do 2 formats freeze-out and rebuy/add-on Freeze-out
t-5000
4000 (if we want it to be quicker) Rebuy tournnament
Start 2500-3000
Rebuys first 3 levels same as initial buy in
Add-on , up to 2x the rebuy amt (our rule is u may not buy chip lead with an add-on) Blinds
25/50
50/100
75/150
break (colour up $25 , no more rebuys, add-on must be done before break)
100/200
200/400
300/600
400/800
500/1000 (begin removing $100 in exchange for $500/$1000 chips, leave some)
600/1200
800/1600
1000/2000 (remove all remaining $100 chips if nessesary)
2000/4000
3000/6000
etc....
blinds are either 20-30 mins, in rebuy games sometimes we do 30 min blinds before the break and 20min after to allow for more people to rebuy and build the kitty. with 10 players we usually end in the 1000/2000 area, sometimes a level above or below.
for a first tournament i recommend a freeze-out, then try integrating rebuys and add-ons if you desire. This set up will give you a tourney that will last approx 3.5hrs with most decent players. Expect a shorter game with novices and rookies.
one variant is to remove the blind levels 600/1200 and 800/1600 and skip driectly from 500/1000 to 1000/2000 whereby u could remove all $100 chips when you reach the 500/1000 level. (note this does make the end game a bit of a crap shoot if u have 4 or 5 or so players still on the table) | | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
