Chips: 38 | | | How to Structure Torny... I'm probably going with the NJ set of 500 Chips.
With that said, would like to do a 5000 starting point for chip stacks.
I don't want the pink NJ chips and would prefer to start it at..
50 cent/ $1
And go up from there..
Is there a way to pull this off ? gonna be anywhere from 8-12 people at a given time.
Please help ... my first time running weekly torny's. |

Please help ... my first time running weekly torny's. | you're gonna start the blinds at .5/1 with a 5k stack? are you sure? the wsop starts at 25/25 (or is it 25/50 now?) with 10k. so your stack/blind ratio starts off more than 10x better than the wsop. your tournament is likely to last the whole day, and you'll need 7 denominations (.5/1/5/25/100/500/1000).
standard practice for that many chips is to do four denoms (25/100/500/1000). start the blinds at 25/50 or 25/25. figure out how long you want the tournament to last and work backwards from there. the tournament will likely end around when the big blind is 5% of the total chips in play.
so questions you have to ask upfront:
how many total chips are in play?
how long do you want the tournament to last?
do you have to start the blinds at .5/1?
if you do...is this doable in 500 chips? |

Chips: 708 | | | Re: How to Structure Torny... Having a starting stack value of 5000 and the first level of blinds at .50/1 is a VERY VERY deep stack tourney. The tourney I run is a T5000 tourney and my blind levels start at 25/50 and move up from there.
Couple questions:
1. How long do you want your tourney to last?
2. Do you want to try to scale this set so you can use it for both cash games and tourneys? If so, what kind of stakes is your cash game?
if the answer to #2 is "yes" then I would suggest buying essentially a good cash game set and making your starting tourney stack lower. Maybe something like T200 or T300. Then you can have your blinds start at .5/1 or 1/2.
Edit: I see Jojo beat me to it... Damn you Jojo! |

This is a good article that helped me decide what I wanted to buy: Home Poker Tourney - How Many Poker Chips Do I Need to Run a Poker Tournament? |

Chips: 1,202 | | | Re: How to Structure Torny... T5000
( 8 ) T25
( 8 ) T100
( 8 ) T500 or (6) T500 and (1) T1K
T25 8 x 12 = 96 chips
T100 8 x 12 = 96 chips
T500 8 x 12 = 96 chips
Buy (20) T1000 for re-buy and the rest you could buy .50/$1 for your cash game. That would leave you about less then 200 for your cash set.
25/50
50/100
75/150
100/200
150/300
200/400
300/600
400/800
500/1000
1K/2K
1.5K/3K
2K/3K
Each round is 20min. If you want it faster you could short the minute round like 15 or 10. Heads up you should shorten the min.
I hope this help and good luck.
BTW, take some picture and show them off to us will you. |

Like Jojo said, I'm sure there are the same type of articles on this site. Good luck! |

Chips: 38 | | | Re: How to Structure Torny... Really Appreciate the feedback. I was hoping to find a way to get the $1 and $5 dollars chips in there as they are some nice colors in the NJ set.
I may just have to go with the 25/25 or 25/50 structure after all. |

Chips: 527 | | | Re: How to Structure Torny... When I run my tourney, I have enough for up to 16 with the chips I have. I play a 1000 starting stack with blinds starting at 5/10.
I have different stacks depending on how many people are playing, but the normal stack is:
15 - $5 (I have 150 of these)
13 - $25 (I have 150 of these)
6 - $100 (I have 100 of these)
with $500 for color ups and rebuys. (and 50 of these)
It works well, and again, with more people, you may have to skimp on the lower denoms and add in an extra $100, but it works.
I've never needed a 1000 chip, and could truly do without the $500... 4 colors is plenty for the tourneys I run... |

Chips: 542 | | | Re: How to Structure Torny... If you like the $1 and $5 chips, then choose a chip to represent 25¢ and do a T50 tournament, just like a T5000.
8 x T.25
8 x T1
8 x T5
--------
24 chips = T50
Blinds:
.25/.50, .50/1, .75/1.50, 1/2, 1.50/3,
2/4, 3/6, 5/10, 7/14,
10/20, 15/30, 20/40, etc.
Could use 2 x T25 as rebuys. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
