I am having a multi table probably 20- 35 people tournament... i am wanting advice on how many of ea chip to start w... Blinds will go 25- 50 and so on.... I am using EITHER.... white 25, red 50, green 100, blue 500, black 1000.... OR red 25 green 100, blue 500, black 1000..... What should i start out with on chips?????? And how much TOTAL chips?

1. Stick with traditional colors as much as possible (green=25, black=100, red/blue=500/1000)

2. With blinds at 25/50, a good starting stack is 5000 (aka T5000).

3. Possible breakouts would include 12x25,12x100,7x500 - 8x25,8x100,6x500,2x1000

For 30 players,
25s - 30 x 8 = 240 chips
100s - 30x8 = 240 + 60 to color up all 25s = 300 chips
500s - 30x6 = 180 + 60 to color up all 100s = 240 chips
100s - 30x2 = 60 chips (no need to color up 500s unless you want to)

880 chips for 30 players

I'm sure there is another chiptalker who can come up with a better breakdown than this one, but, here's what you might do. I'd omit the T1000 chip from your starting stacks and possibly use them later in the tourney to color up chips. With blinds starting at 25/50 I'd go like this:
T25-16 chips
T100-11 chips
T500-1 chip Total- 2000 in chips
-or-
T25-20 chips
T50-10 chips
T100-5 chips
T500-1 chip Total- 2000 in chips

"hachkc" is more on track. I agree that you'd want some larger starting stacks with the blinds starting at 25/50. Souldn't be long before a bunch of people offer a bunch of breakdowns which will be much better than the ones I suggested. Good luck.

I've been organizing and running a home game w/ 20-30 people for a few years now. The basic set-up we have been using is 2500 in starting chips:

25: 12
100: 12
500: 2

20 min. blind levels, 5-10 min. break every hour
Blinds:

25-50
50-100
75-150
break
100-200
150-300
200-400
break & color up
300-600
500-1000
700-1400
break and color up(if needed pending tourney size)
1000-2000
1500-3000
2000-4000

This structure seems to give people enough time to see a bunch of hands before the blinds get too high. Our games usually take 3-4 hours. We have tried using a higher starting stack but this seems to make the game much longer, doesn't force enough action, etc... homepokertourney has a really nice create-a-blind file that you can print off too.
