Why Such large T Tournaments?

Just a thought - why is there a trend for such high-value tournaments?

T1000 I can understand - lots of online sites do this and also one could argue that T1,000 = $10.

But what about the higher values that seem to get increasingly higher and higher -why do you guys do it - no one is really likely to pay $1,000 entry never mind $10,000 or $20,000 or $100,000.

Fantasy can only stretch so far...

Devils advocacy of course....

25 as a starting denomination works better than 5 as a starting denom. that, plus the fact that any tournaments you'll ever play in a casino starts at 25/50, and it's a no brainer.

10k stacks are popular b/c the big events are 10k. also, b/c it gives you a deep stack for a couple of levels.

Re: Why Such large T Tournaments?

I assume you mean for home tourneys?

I hate T5 chips. Better to start with 25/100/500 chips. Hence higher T tourneys.

I like the lowest demonination to be 25.. not a fan of T5 chips, although I own a lot . Plus, the nicest chips of a lot of sets are the higher demoninations (IMO). If you got 'em, use 'em!

Re: Why Such large T Tournaments?

We've done everything from T200 to T10k, depending on the chips.

When we were using the cash set chips - T200 starting at 1-2, but haven't done that in a long time.

With a $20 buy in and one rebuy, we've been doing T3500. With PNY's starting at T25 or ASM Cleopatras again, T25. With guinness' PNY's though we've been doing a T1000 starting blinds at 5-10.

With the NH v MA games - T8000 to T10k but that's a bigger buy freeze out, so we want deeper stacks.

Like jojo said any structure starting at T25/50 for blinds in what you're going to see at Casino sit-n-gos.

Re: Why Such large T Tournaments?

T100 or T1,000,000 starting stacks doesn't matter to me. Everyone gets the same amount to start and the blinds are the same for everyone too. That said, I very much dislike tourneys that use T5 or even T1 chips. My preference is T5,000 or T10,000 with starting blinds of 25/50. Plus, you feel like a real baller with the massive starting stack in front of you.

Re: Why Such large T Tournaments?

I don't like T1 or T5 chips much either. I'd prefer to use those denoms for cash games and bring out the big guns for tourneys. I guess it just more closely resembles what I see the pros play so for me is more enjoyable.

Re: Why Such large T Tournaments?

Deep stack tourney's are lots of fun. They don't become an all-in donk fest.

Re: Why Such large T Tournaments?

I'm a huge fan of bigger starting stacks. One reason is it gives people their monies worth. So it isn't an all in Donk fest after the first hour. Second, I like to play, so it really doesn't matter if the game lasts 4 plus hours as I'm good with that.

I normally play T10,000 and T20,000. 25/50 for the T10,000 & 100/200 for the T20,000. I also have a set that lets me play a T1.5 Million. Starting blinds are 5K/10K.
