I am gearing up for the winter version of the Garage Poker Tour. I ran a successful tournament for 11 weeks during the summer and at the players request I am reworking the starting stacks for the TOC to accomodate a T25K plaque...seen here

Yeah they are pretty sweet aren't they....home made out of aluminum bars. They have never seen actual play, and it is sad...

During the summer league the regular season events were T5,000. and the TOC was T10K start and added 1K of chips per point earned. The average starting stack was close to T22K, and there were 7 players. I plan on having at least 9 for the TOC this season.

As you can see that format won't work if I am going to incorporate these plaques into my TOC.

My question to you fine folks is...Do you have a suggestion for a MINIMUM starting stack that makes it feasible to incorporate a single T25,000 plaque. My first thought is 100,000, but that seems a little low...150,000? 200,000?

I say feasible only because I assume you know as well as I do that I could include the 25K into almost any breakdown, but then it wouldn't actually work in play because it would constantly have to be changed for smaller denoms between players. (hopefully that came out like I wanted it to)

Any thoughts/reactions considering this minor dilema will be thoroughly chewed on for several days before making a decision!

PS: The denoms I have availble to go along with the starting stack are 500's, 1000's, 5,000's, and 10,000's and at the maximum there will be 10 players.

I'll say right off that if you're using the plaques you don't need to use 10k value chips. The plaque makes that chip redundant, imo.
T100,000 is the minimum, as you note.
10 T500
20 T1000
10 T5000
1 25k plaque

If I understand you correctly, you have exactly 1 plaque per person in total. Then, if you use Big Mike's starting stacks, you can always use the 10k chips for colour-ups (i.e. to colour-up the 1000s when necessary, esp. since you're out of 25k plaques already), and as you get down to the last few players, these babies will definitely find their way into the pot. Or you can avoid using 10k chips at all cost, which will pressure players even more to use their plaques for betting.

Well I broke them out last night and they were a huge hit!! All the guys absolutely loved them! Now there was lots of talk about throwing them at another player but luckily it didn't happen!! If I remember Captn_Lego weighed one of mine and it was over 110g!! HAHA

I would say the minimun should be T50,000 to use a T25,000 chip. I use T5000 plaques with T10,000 starting stacks. My rule is to never have a chip worth more than half than the starting stack.

Thanks BCR_9er, the T100K stacks worked out really well, there was only a couple of times where guys needed to make change and that was when they started to get short stacked and had most of their stack in just the 1 25K chip.

I am planning on the league being 10 weeks, so starting stacks will be near T120K-T150K unless someone runs the table (cough, cough) then a couple stacks could be near 200K!!! I will be starting a thread devoted to my league later this month!
