question about pt system for seat to WPT borgata main event

getting ready to start our "seat to the WPT" tourney series. wanted to hear thoughts on good point system to use.

10 people
9 tourneys (we may have to 2-a-week it)
$1000 buy-in
winner gets their seat paid for

in the past, have just used a 9,8,7... point system. in our normal tourney series (that allows re-buys) we use a pt system that deducts for re-buys.

was considering going to a point system that rewards the top finishers more.

was looking for any pros and cons of doing this for such a short series.

Re: question about pt system for seat to WPT borgata main event

I would go

10th place= 0 points
9th place= 10 points
8th place= 20 points
7th place= 30 points
6th place= 40 points
5th place= 50 points
4th place= 75 points
3rd place= 100 points
2nd place= 150 points
1st place= 300 points

Let's say John has the following finishes: 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 3rd, 2nd, 6th, 3rd, 2nd, 3rd, and 5th. His points are (300+150+100+100+150+40+100+150+100+50) for 1240.

Lee has the following finishes: 1st, 1st, 8th, 7th, 9th, 1st, 8th, 10th, 9th, and 1st. His points are (300+300+20+30+10+300+20+0+150+300) for 1430.

Even though John had consistently higher finishes, Lee is rewarded for his make-or-break style, and his four first-place finishes more than make up for his other six early bustouts (all 7th place or worse).

I personally like this system because it makes people play to win the tournament rather than sit back and try to accumulate high finishes to build points. It's sort of like Ricky Bobby: if you aint first, you're last.

Re: question about pt system for seat to WPT borgata main event

For what its worth here is what we use! Seems to be a preety good system.

Points Systemfficeffice" />>>
> >
Regular Points - The points awarded will be reverse total of the number of players in the game multiplied by 2. All players will receive points each week they attend. >>
(ie, For a 10 person game, (n=10)*2=20)
1st - n points = 20 points
2nd - n-1 points = 18 points
3rd - n-2 points = 16 points>>
4th - n-3 points = 14 points>>
Etc. 5th-10th>>
>>
Bonus Points - 1st through 5th will receive bonus points>>

1st - 15 points>>
2nd - 10 points
3rd - 6 points
4th - 3 points>>
5th - 1 point>>
>>
Bounty Points - A bounty will be placed on the previous games winner. If you knock out the previous winner you will be awarded 10 bonus points. If the previous winner defends their previous win they will be awarded 20 bonus points. >>
>>
Participation Points - For each game you attend up to the minimum (5) you will receive 5 points and for each game over the minimum you will be awarded 10 points.>>
>>
Example: For the 2nd satellite there were 10 players and Player A finished first. He received 20 regular points for 1st and 15 bonus points, plus 5 participation points for a total of 40. >>
Player B finished second, so he received 18 regular points, plus 10 bonus points, plus 5 participation points, plus 10 bounty points for knocking out the previous winner for a total of 43 points. >>
>>
If 2 players decide to chop a tournament the players will each get the sum of the total points for 1st and 2nd divided by 2. For instance, if 1st place is to receive 40 points and 2nd place is to receive 34 points each player would receive 37 points. Participation and bounty points will not be chopped. The players may split 1st and 2nd place money however they like. >>
