The tournament should end around the color up of the hundreds, so expect about three hours. With breaks it should be about four. You could add a level at the beginning to add more play: 25-25 no limit and 25-50 (50-100 limits) fixed limit.
Re: Need blind schedule: Mixed Limit (Fixed & No Limit) Tournament
I guess you could do 15 minutes then switch, or maybe 12 minutes and switch. The WSOP mixed hold em is 30 minutes of each, with 10,000 chips. So I would probably add the 25-25 NL and 25-50 (50-100 limits) FL levels with your stacks and do 10 or 12 minutes of each. I don't think it matters if you make a full orbit. At some point you are going to have to play limit and the same for no limit. The blinds and limits are small in the beginning so I don't think it is a big deal.
Re: Need blind schedule: Mixed Limit (Fixed & No Limit) Tournament
Thanks for the advice.
We had the tournament last night. I used the schedule you provided. We had 11 players. I ended up switching every 12 minutes and the tournament ended after 4 hours and 15 minutes (including a few breaks). It was a little long, but a lot of fun. Next time I would switch every 10 minutes instead of 12.
I highly recommend this tournament format for getting your group of players used to playing Fixed Limit. Hopefully it also helps my players prepare for when we begin playing mixed games (HO, HOSE, HORSE).
Re: Need blind schedule: Mixed Limit (Fixed & No Limit) Tournament
Glad to hear it worked well for your group. I, too, enjoy a switch to a limit tourney now and again and yes, it does make for good HORSE practice. Once your group gets the hang of HORSE it will be a great time.
