Chips: 41 | | | 7 To 8 Hour Poker Tourney My friends and I have a regular poker tourney every other saturday with a $20 buyin. We usually get 4 table full of players but by the time the 4th level kicks into gear there really isn't much room to splash around. It starts to become a shove fest. Anyway, we decided to have a special tourney capped around 16-18 players with the buyin set at $50-$100. With an invite required. It's just a way to get the best players in that tourney together and crown a champion.
We'd like to start the tourney early on a Saturday so it could run about 7 to 8 hours. We'd like it to be a deep stack tourney where luck is not so much of a factor. Does anyone have a good structure I could use for this tourney. I'd really like it to be a success. I think it would be cool if we had a trophey made or something to. And maybe make is a semi anuual event for bragging rights. If anyone can help me out. I'd greatly appreciate it. |

t1500 or t2000 or t2500
5/10
10/20
20/40
30/60
50/100
75/150
100/200
25/100/200
25/150/300
50/200/400
75/300/600
100/400/800
100/500/1000
100/700/1400
200/1000/2000
300/1500/3000
500/2k/4k
500/3k/6k
1k/4k/8k
with 18 players, it might end anywhere from 100/700/1400 (level 14) to 300/1500/3000 (level 16) depending on the starting stack. if you make each level 30 minutes, then you've got yourself a 7-8hr tourney, not including breaks
hope this helps |

Chips: 121 | | | Re: 7 To 8 Hour Poker Tourney depends on the number of chips you have and colours, the above tourney set up will require you to have 5 different colours min...
if you have only 4 colours i'd suggest a 25/100/500/1000 tourney,
If you want length allow re-buys and an add-on (1 or 2x rebuy stack amount)
Start with, 2000 approx in chips, and re-buy for 2000 chips
25/50
50/100
75/150 (end rebuys after this level and have a break, then allow an add-on)
100/200 (elimination starts at this level, rebuys and add-on will signifigantly add to the pot
200/400
300/600
400/800
500/1000
600/1200
700/1400
800/1600
900/1800
1000/2000
1500/3000
2000/4000
3000/6000
4000/8000
5000/10000
each level could be 30 min, or you could drop the time on the levels at the later stages, say once u hit the 1000/2000 stage and beyond you could drop to 20 min levels being that there will be less players by this point. But if you and your friends are looking for a solid 8 hr tourney this would work at 30 min, your entry fee could be $40, with $40 rebuys and a 1 or 2x add on of $40 or $80. You could be that nearly everyone would go in for the double add-on (at least they do in most of the games i play in) that would set everyone in for $120, not including re-buys.
A long tourney like this could be played at a freeze out with 5000 in chips except that players knocked out early would have nothing to do for the next 5 or 6 hours. at least with rebuys/add-ons they could all play for at least 2 hrs or so. |

The simple answer is don't change anything but simply increase the round length from say 25mins to 40mins or something similar. Simply double the chip stacks and increase the rounds a bit. |

Chips: 1,700 | | | Re: 7 To 8 Hour Poker Tourney Unlimited rebuys for the entire tourney. Seriously, you should look at your structure and make sure it is smooth. You shouldn't have any level where the blinds double. Right before a level where the blind double or right after that level starts, some players looks at there stack and think they have to make a move right now and the shoving begins. In most cases they are right to do this.
Once you have a smooth structure, it is just a matter of adjusting stack size and the length of the levels to meet your requirement. |

Chips: 41 | | | Re: 7 To 8 Hour Poker Tourney So here is my idea for my tournament structure. A 16-18 person tourney that is designed to go 7 to 8 hours (hopefully) but no more than 12 hours. It is a T10,000 chip structure. Chip breakdowns are (16) $25, (16) $100, (6) $500, and (5) $1,000. Blinds will be 40 minutes long. Ive included the lapsed time between levels. I'm hoping it will end by level 12.
1. 25/50 40 min
2. 50/100 1hr 20 min
3. 75/150 2 hr
4. 100/200 2hr 40 min
5. 150/300 3hr 20 min
6. 200/400 4 hr
7. 250/500 4 hr 40 min remove $25 at end of round
8. 300/600 5 hr 20 min
9. 400/800 6 hr
10. 500/1000 6 hr 40 min
11. 600/1200 7 hr 20 min
12. 800/1600 8 hr
13. 1000/2000 8 hr 40 min
14. 1200/2400 9 hr 20 min remove $100 after round
15. 1500/3000 10 hr
16. 2000/4000 10 hr 40 min
17. 2500/5000 11 hr 20 min
Please let me know how I can improve this tourney. I want it to be a deep stack structure where you can get alot of play in before the blinds eat you up. Let me know if you think my structure is too long or any minor tweaking I can make. |

16. 2000/4000 10 hr 40 min
17. 2500/5000 11 hr 20 min | Using the regular rules of thumb, I don't think it will be anywhere near being over by level 12. Of course it depends on how your folks play, but a regular game of good mixed players with a lot of money at stake would take longer in my experience. Though maybe people will get bored and play wilder.
With 16 players x $10K that's 160,000 in play. If the players were heads up at level 12, then the 1,600 BB would only be 2% of the average stack (80,000). Playing with 50 x BB doesn't put any pressure on the players.
I think the combination of a very slow increase in blinds and the long levels will make for a very long game. Better to have 30 minute levels and maybe drop out a few -- like 7, 11, 14. | | | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
