7-Card Stud / Pot Limit Omaha

Has anyone run a tournament with these games? We are going to run a couple of them for a change and I was wondering besides the obvious ante in 7-card stud would there be much difference in running blinds schedules the same as NLHE? This is more of a general question concerning the blinds rather than a specific blinds schedule.

Any experience? How did the games go?

We use the same blinds schedule for our Omaha games, which we happen to play NL because it's what our players are used to. Although the two games (PL and NL) play differently, the blinds schedules seem to be about the same.

To date I haven't played any stud tournaments live, although I have played them online. Instead of blinds there are the two betting limits (small bet after 3rd and 4th streets, large bet after the remaining three streets). In addition to the ante, there is also a bring-in bet made by the low or high card (low for 7-Stud and 7-Stud 8OB, high for Razz) that is larger than the ante but smaller than the small bet. The relationships vary, but the antes are often around 20% of the small bet and the bring-ins are about 1/3 of the small bet. Not only do the relationships vary, but they influence strategy; the bigger the initial pot, the more aggressive the play.

Re: 7-Card Stud / Pot Limit Omaha

When we play omaha we use the same schedule as our hold'em tournaments. We play pot limit Omaha and it takes slightly less time for an omaha game compaired to a hold'em game (the omaha game usually finishes 1-2levels before the hold'em game).

Unfortunately none of the guys will play 7card stud with us unless its in a horse rotation but I'd recomend using a modified version of the wsop blind schedule for event 14. Something like:
Round - Ante - Bring In - Completeion - Limits
1 - 5 - 5 - 20 - 20 - 40
2 - 5 - 10 - 30 - 30 - 60
3 - 10 - 15 - 50 - 50 - 100
4 - 15 - 25 - 75 - 75 - 150
5 - 25 - 25 - 100 - 100 - 200
6 - 25 - 50 - 150 - 150 - 300
7 - 50 - 50 - 200 - 200 - 400
8 - 50 - 75 - 250 - 250 - 500
9 - 75 - 75 - 300 - 300 - 600
10 - 75 - 100 - 400 - 400 - 800
11 - 100 - 100 - 500 - 500 - 1000
12 - 100 - 200 - 600 - 600 - 1200
13 - 200 - 200 - 800 - 800 - 1600
14 - 200 - 300 - 1000 - 1000 - 2000
15 - 300 - 300 - 1200 - 1200 - 2400
16 - 300 - 400 - 1500 - 1500 - 3000
17 - 500 - 500 - 2000 - 2000 - 4000
18 - 500 - 500 - 2500 - 2500 - 5000
19 - 500 - 1000 - 3000 - 3000 - 6000
20 - 1000 - 1000 - 4000 - 4000 - 8000

With 3000chip starting stack (10 x 5, 10 x 25, 12 x 100 , 3 x 500) that should give players plenty of play and still keep the tournament running, with 8 players it should end approximately between the 12th and 15th round, at that stage there are between 10 and 20 big bets in play (although some tournaments may end earlier than this).

I hope this helps
Regards
Ian

What is the starting stack? What kind of chip breakdown do you use for this structure?

Thanks

Re: 7-Card Stud / Pot Limit Omaha

10 k
the breakdown depends on your chipset an how many participants.
so i would say more of the low denominations, and change them at useful points of the tournament, and off course chip races
