I've played in one before and it was such a pain, I think we were lucky to make a full orbit every 25mins (round length). The issues were general PL issues such as not knowing how much they could bet and chopping up pots was especially difficult when you throw side pots into the mix which happens quite a bit in the mid and later rounds. Just seems to be a lot of "admin" versus what you'll see in non-split game.
What's wrong with just using a standard limit format for HORSE/HOSE games? As to your question, folks do play PLS/PLS8 so which might be an option. You could post a question specific to that I suppose. |

we typically play all of those games as NL.....but I'm not sure what that would do in a tourney structure....

Hell, just play everything NL and let us know how its turns out then. With NL stud though, I don't see many hands going to showdown in anything but the tightest of crowds barring the occassional big hand collisions like wired 3s versus AA or such. |

Prior to this year's WSOP, the HORSE event went to NLHE at the final table. But beginning this year, they stayed with the same rotating structure, which most players preferred. |

PLHE
PLO8
PL Mississippi Stud Low (Razz equivalent)
PL Mississippi Stud High
PL Mississippi Stud High/Low (8-or-better)
Mississippi Stud is basically 7-stud with a 2-card flop after 3rd street, and the river dealt up. Basically, it ends up playing more like HE in that you have 2 hole cards, 4 betting rounds per hand, and can use a small blind / big blind structure if you want, but everyone gets their own 5 "board" cards.
For a brief description, see: Stud poker - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
I haven't actually tried it yet... If/when I do, I'll let you know how it went. |

This is for the $50k starting stack, right?

Yet, the thought of this group playing NL for each game has me wondering if the tourney would last very long...hard to say for sure.
I'm thinking leave the NL structure for the cash games and put a different structure in place for the tourneys. With that being said, I think PL isn't too far from being NL (especially with this group). And while hachkc is right about time betting, counting and busting up the pot, this group has gotten pretty used to it from the cash games. So if you don't want to go PL/NL and limit seems to constraining, then I'd go spread.
That's certainly different than the "normal" game, but it may be the right thing for this group. |

Michael, how long do you think this game would go? I'd love it to end before 1am, ideally.....otherwise, things get too spread out and the post-tourney cash game gets screwed up.... | Level | Ante | SB | BB | Limit? | length | | | NLHE | 1 | | 25 | 50 | | 30 | 6pm | | PLO8 | 2 | | 50 | 75 | | 30 | | | Stud | 3 | 25 | 50 | 75 | 150 | 30 | 7 | | S8 | 4 | 50 | 75 | 150 | 300 | 30 | | | | | BREAK | | | 10 | 8 | | NLHE | 5 | | 100 | 200 | | 30 | | | PLO8 | 6 | | 150 | 300 | | 30 | 9:10 | | Stud | 7 | 50 | 200 | 400 | 800 | 30 | | | S8 | 8 | 75 | 200 | 400 | 800 | 30 | 10:10 | | | | BREAK AND COLOR UP | | | 15 | | | NLHE | 9 | | 400 | 800 | | 30 | | | PLO8 | 10 | | 500 | 1000 | | 30 | 11:25 | | Stud | 11 | 200 | 600 | 1200 | 2400 | 30 | | | S8 | 12 | 300 | 600 | 1200 | 2400 | 30 | 12:25am | | | | BREAK | | | 10 | | | NLHE | 13 | | 800 | 1600 | | 30 | | | PLO8 | 14 | | 1000 | 2000 | | 30 | 1:35 | | Stud | 15 | 500 | 1300 | 2500 | 5000 | 30 | | | S8 | 16 | 500 | 1300 | 2500 | 5000 | 30 | 2:35 | | | | BREAK AND COLOR UP | | | 10 | | | NLHE | 17 | | 1500 | 3000 | | 30 | | | PLO8 | 18 | | 2000 | 4000 | | 30 | 3:45 | | Stud | 19 | 1000 | 2500 | 5000 | 10000 | 30 | | | S8 | 20 | 1500 | 2500 | 5000 | 10000 | 30 | |
