I'm putting on 30 person tournament. The winner will receive a buyin to a Foxwoods WPT event.
I've set aside up to 10 hours for the tournament. I'd like it if everyone got 200 big blinds to start. Thus, if the initial blinds are 25-50, everyone would get 10,000. If it's 5-10, then 2,000. You get the idea.
Any recommendations on a structure? Also, how many chips should I bring, assuming color ups?
You will need plenty of play since I assume it will be a decent buyin and a big prize on the line. You may consider using antes, since that will be the case in the WPT tourney, and I think it should be good practice for that. Anyway, I suggest this (with antes):
Blind levels 30 minutes long
50-100
100-200
100-200-25 10 minute break
150-300-25
200-400-50
300-600-75 10 minute break and color up 25's
400-800-100
600-1200-200
800-1600-200
1000-2000-300 10 minute break and color up 100's
1500-3000-500
2000-4000-500 5 minute break and color up 500's
3000-6000-1000
4000-8000-1000
6000-12000-2000 10 minute break
8000-16000-2000
10000-20000-3000 5 minute break and color up 1000s
15000-30000-5000
That is a 600-minute, or 10-hour tournament with the included breaks. You will need this many chips
600 T25
300 T100
240 T500
180 T1000
84 T5000
You use the 500's to color up the 25s, the 1000s to color up the 100s, and the 5000s to color up the 500s.
Colour Up's:
25's: Use 90 100's (bring 100 just incase)
100's: Use 90 500's (bring 100 just incase)
500's: Use 30 5000's (bring 35 just incase)
1000's: Use 30 5000's (bring 35 just incase)
Total Chips Required:
360 x 25's
460 x 100's
310 x 500's
150 x 1000's
70 x 5000's
Total: 1350
I'd thoroughly Recomend that you get a program like tournament director and use it to display the blind schedule on a big screen/ Multiple small screens
Are you going to have dedicated dealers at this event or just pass the deal?
Will you have a dedicated tournament director or will you play and tournament direct?
Homepokertourney.com has some tools that'll help you customize your tourney based on # of players, starting stack and number of chips. I did that when I set-up my 20-person league tourney a couple years ago. Worked out very well.
Are you going to use poker software to manage the game? If so, which one? With 30 people, I would think that would be a must.
