Chips: 375 | | | Worst Blind Schedule Just finished a Princess Cruise, and played in few of the almost daily Hold 'em Tourneys...
T2000
100-200 starting blinds
Blinds doubled every 15 min.
I was lucky enough to win the 1st tourney/crapshoot, and donated most (not all) back later in the week.
Would anyone else even consider running a tourney starting with 10 BBs? A couple of us realized there was no room to play early. Most games saw 3 people knocked out before the 1st orbit was complete. If you got stacked, you could play, as some folks folded despite incredible pot-odds. |

But if I was a regular tourney host, once every few months I would consider hosting a "Turbo" night where stacks are low, blinds are high, and levels are short to mix things up a bit. Yeah it's a crapshoot, but it's fun, and you could play 3 or 4 of them in one sitting depending on turnout. There's no way I'd host it regularly. If that T2000 with 100-200 starting blinds was the only tourney your cruise had, that's pretty lame-o. |

Cool that you won; bummer that you dumped it all back later. Oh well.

I've been on Celebrity and Carnival cruises both with a poker table, and the tournaments/SnGs are NOT geared towards the player by any means. They're all about how fast they can get them over with and earn that drop.
My last cruise, on Celebrity Century, had the table going fairly regularly. I only played 2 STTs, winning one. It was a crapshoot, as I was down to like 2 chips at one point (1 BB) and fought back to win. Pure luck.
Worse still was the rake on the NL cash game, when there was one. 10% max $15! Just f-ing nuts. I still made money because of all the chasing and fish there, but it was still a crazy rake. Cruise ship poker, like just about anything else on the cruise ship, should be for entertainment purposes only. A good player can win, but it won't be much. The house will get most of it in the long run. |

That was the only tourney setup. Buy in was $50+10 until the last one $85+$15. I won $350 and then gave back 3 more $60s... still ahead in the tourney column. They waited to get 10. They wanted to play 6 handed after I won (I had to grab lunch, it was 11:30 and I hadn't eaten). They paid $100 each so the house would still get their end. Some days there weren't enough guys to play and the table just closed.
Some folks did manage to get cute, but mostly it was an all-in fest. Big crowds watching the final 3 or 4 shoot it out, as the table was outside the casino and folks would walk past, stop and look for the hole card cameras...
I wasn't in a rush to play more, but I did play and hope that a cash game would follow. 10% rake up to the BB I think. Fish all over, See cash/ring unlimited raises thread. I managed to beat the rake |

I am mainly a fix limit player. TIA for any answers. |

Chips: 375 | | | Re: Worst Blind Schedule Paid top 2, $350 and $150. I had a chip lead when 3rd place asked to "do business" the #2 guy and I ignored him. #2 got knocked out. I had chip lead and again an offer to "do business".
He offered an even split, acknowledging that I had more chips, but not much more. I declined and asked (without intention) if the offer would be good for a while.
He played supertight and I busted him after he blinded himself off.
Another end of game, I saw the 2 players split evenly. Another time they chopped $300/$200. The casino would just assume you finish as quickly as possible.
RE: Cash game... $3-6 or $4-8 limit hold'em. The table wasn't always open when the casino was open. If there weren't enough to start a cash game (4+) soon enough, they "balanced" the table and closed it for the night.
If you are a decent player, you should clean up. Not a lot of bucks to be won, but there are a lot of people just playing to play. | | | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
