Hello.
I have a 500 chip set which is of the following:

$1 - 100
$5 - 100
$25 - 100
$100 - 100
$500 - 50
$1000 - 50

What i am wanting to know is.
If i have a 4-8 player poker game.

What is the best tournament structure for me to follow.
Should i start at 25/50 or should i incorporate the $5 chips

I am wanting the tournament to be about 1 hour - 2 hours long.
With maybe 1 - 2 breaks in between.

What do you think ?

You have so many chips that you could start your players with anything between 100 and 10000 chips -- we can help you more with a blind structure once you figure out what you want starting stacks to be.

Also, you might want the tournament to run a bit longer than 1 hr (2 hrs is probably good). It allows for a bit more play. Of course, if you want to practice for low buyin casino SnGs, 1 hr games are probably good

Example:
1500 to start, 15 min blinds

4 players:
25/50
50/100
75/150
100/200
150/300 (break after this level to color up)
200/400 (game should be done here)
300/600

8 players:
25/50
50/100
100/200
150/300 (break after this level to color up)
200/400
300/600
400/800 (game should be done here)
600/1200

You'll probably find that for structure 1 and 4 players, you'll be done in a little more than 1 hr. For structure 2 and 8 players, you'll probably be done after about 1.5 hrs.

thinking time frame is a little short but you can make it work. adjust based on lessons learned after the first tourney.

you could use a basic p* T1500 structure with 15 minutes levels.

15/30
25/50
50/100
75/150
100/200
150/300
200/400
300/600 (should end somewhere around here for 8 players w/ no rebuys or add-on)

that puts it at 2:15 with no breaks but you can just throw a break in the middle somewhere.

if you went with the T1500 structure, you could distribute chips like this:

10 - T5
10 - T25
8 - T100
1- T100

with 8 people, this still gives you some chips for color-ups and starts players off with 29 chips.

lots of different options available to you also.

blinds im thinking 10 - 15 min or so.

say max 8 players
starting stack is 1000 - 8000 chips total.
starting stack 1500 - 12000 chips total
starting stack 2000 - 16000 chips total

If the blinds are 5/10 then 2000 chips starting may be excessive, isnt there a rule of thumb something like 60x the big blind ?

if the blinds are 25/50 starting then maybe 1000 - or online which is 1500.

what do you think ?

on p*, the normal ones i play start you with 75x (T1500 starting at 10/20) . guarantees start you with 150x (T3000 starting at 10/20). and the deepstacks start you with 250x (T5000 starting at 10/20).

in my home game i start you with 100x (T10000 starting at 50/100).
