Chips: 38 | | | New Setup with Antes Once a month we have a 20-25 player T-1000 tourney. We have always done rebuys for 2 hours (4 blind levels). Last month we also offered an add-on when the rebuy period ends (all but 1 player took it). All those extra fauxs on the table have, of course, extended the length of the game. We shoot to have the tourney end in @ 6 1/2 hours. So to get us back to that number I have decided to try to incorporated antes into the mix.
Do you think the following breakdown will accomplish that goal (under 7 hours):
10 - 20
15 - 30
25 - 50
50 - 100 ---- rebuys end after this level - add on offered
100 - 200
150 - 300
25/200/400
25/300/600
50/400/800
50/500/1000
100/600/1200
100/800/1600
200/1000/2000 ---- want it to end @ here
200/1500/3000
400/3000/6000
Last time we started with 18 players and ended up with 42,000 in chips on the table. I have 22 confirmed for tomorrow night so that number will likely be higher this month.
Do you think the above structure will accomplish my under 7 hour goal? Do you think the antes are too aggressive and will shorten the tourney too drastically? How much resistance do you think I am likely to meet by rolling this out tomorrow without advanced warning to the players?
Thanks. |

| Personally, I think your antes are a little small. Even at a full table of 9-10 players, they're only going to amount to an extra small blind in the pot, which doesn't make much of a difference in terms of pot odds and encouraging looser play. I usually go with antes of 10-20% of the big blind (aim for 15% and round as necessary). That way, you're getting an extra full bet in the pot to fight over.
You might consider squeezing a 75-150 level between the 50-100 and 100-200, then follow it with a 25-75-150 level, then 25-100-200, 50-150-300, etc. |

Chips: 3,046 | | | Re: New Setup with Antes I recommend getting rid of the 5 chips in your setup. You start with 50 big blinds, so I would either stay where you are or maybe go to a T1500 starting count. Then I would do my blinds like this.
25-25 (I promise it is not bad. Players will get used to it and it is only for a level)
25-50
50-100 (end rebuys)
100-200
100-200-25
150-300-25
200-400-50
300-600-75
400-800-100
500-1000-100
600-1200-200
800-1600-200
1000-2000-300
1500-3000-500
2000-4000-500
3000-6000-1000
This structure should definitely finish within the alotted time frame.

Chips: 3,525 | | | Re: New Setup with Antes I'd probably want the ante to be about 1/4~1/3 the small blind -- your antes seem a little low. I'm assuming you're using 30min levels?
T1000
10/20
15/30
25/50 (remove T5)
50/100
75/150
100/200 + 25
150/300 + 25
200/400 + 50
300/600 + 75 (remove T25)
400/800 + 100
600/1200 + 200
1000/2000 + 300 (remove T100)
1500/3000 + 500 [game should end here]
2000/4000 + 500
3000/6000 + 1000 |

This structure should definitely finish within the alotted time frame. | I originally had the antes double what I wrote above but decided that may be too much. I may try it like this for this month and adjust if it doesn't get us to the desired time frame.
We do only have the 5s in play for 2 rounds (used to be 3 when we had a 20-40 in there) so I see what you are saying, but I know most of the players like to start really small and feel free to play lots of hands. This game is super loose during the rebuy period and we usually have 1 or 2 rebuys before the 10-20 level ends. I don't want to shorten the amount of time we allow rebuys because they really do add considerably to the prize pool, but I'd like to keep the game close to the original timeframe.
Thanks for the ideas so far. |

Chips: 3,046 | | | Re: New Setup with Antes No problem on that at all. Just replace my 25-25 level with the 10-20 and 15-30 levels. |

Chips: 38 | | | Re: New Setup with Antes We actually have 25 minute blind levels with a 10 minute break every hour (lots of smokers). So we get 2 levels per hour in. |

Chips: 38 | | | Re: New Setup with Antes So do you like this better, worse, about the same?
10 - 20
15 - 30
25 - 50
50 - 100
--------- rebuys end - offer add-on
75 - 150 --- added level
25/100/200
50/150/300
50/200/400
100/300/600
100/400/800
200/500/1000
200/600/1200
200/800/1600
400/1000/2000
400/1500/3000
Basically added the 75-150 level and increased the antes to equal or be slightly more than a full BB. |

Chips: 3,046 | | | Re: New Setup with Antes I would do 300-600-75 ante, 500-1000-100 ante, and 1000-2000-300 ante, but yours are okay I guess. The problems are that when antes double that puts a tremendous amount of pressure. Remember that the main point of the antes is so someone cannot hang around forever. There is constant pressure to do something, not just from the blinds. |

There is constant pressure to do something, not just from the blinds. | So maybe something like this:
10 - 20
15 - 30
25 - 50
50 - 100
75 - 150
100 - 200
50/150/300
50/200/400
100/300/600
100/400/800
100/500/1000
200/600/1200
200/800/1600
200/1000/2000
400/1500/3000
I removed the $25 ante at the 100-200 level and added 1 round to each ante level. I left the 300-600 level with a 100 ante because it fits in with a break for color-ups to remove the 25 chip. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
