Chips: 1,581 | | | TOC Blind Structure Suggestions Okay so I have been running a league this summer: 7 regular season events T5000 starting stack, and the TOC where players start with 10K and earn more chips dependent upon finish place in regular season events, and knock outs. I anticipate the smallest stack will be roughly 20-25K and largest maybe 50-60K, but could be higher depending upon the attendance at future events. Event 1 and 2 had 5 players, event 3 had 8...which I dont think will happen again, but it might. We just played the 3rd event last night here is the points breakdown:>> Player 1-23,500 Player 2-25,000 Player 3-11,000 Player 4-17,500 Player 5-29,000 Player 6-14,000 Player 7-15,000 Player 8-17,500 Now I am thinking the starting level should at least 200-500, this will be a Thursday night game, and several of the guys will have to go to work, so I was thinking roughly 3.5-4 hours (8pm-12pm). The first level will be 20min all the other levels will be 15 minutes, I know alot of people will get their hackles up about that, but if I stretch them to 20 min (like I use for Sat night events) I could see this taking upwards of 5 hours which wont work for most of the guys. Also I can't start earlier than 8pm because the guys in my group work 12 hour days (7 to 7) and cant get to my place any earlier than 8 or sometimes even 8:30.
Here is a rough guess of what I feel they should be but your thoughts are greatly appreciated!!
RD-SB-BB
1-200-500
2-300-600
3-400-800
4-500-1000
5-800-1600
6-1000-2000
7-1200-2400
(Color up T100)
8-1500-3000
9-2000-4000
10-2500-5000
11-3000-6000
12-4000-8000
13-5000-10000
(It really shouldnt get to this level, but who knows...)
Does anyone think I should go lower and maybe start at 100-200?
Are any of the jumps to wacked out?
Like I said earlier...I would love to hear what anyone think about this scedule....good, bad, or indifferent!
Thanks!! |

Chips: 1,037 | | | Re: TOC Blind Structure Suggestions I think level 4 should be 600-1200. Your small blind from level 3 to 4 increases by 100, from level 4 to 5 increases by 300 and then from 5 to 6 increases by 200. That just seems a tad odd to me, but maybe that's just my personal preference.
Don't get worked up about the folks who will get up in arms about the 15 minute levels. If that's what you need to do to accommodate your players, do it. It's better than telling them it's going to run until 1:30 in the morning and having them not show up.
Good luck! |

Chips: 1,581 | | | Re: TOC Blind Structure Suggestions Thanks, I looked at it last night and I thought something seemed a little funny. I think what I might do is just add the 600-1200 in and leave the 500-1000
RD-SB-BB
1-200-500
2-300-600
3-400-800
4-500-1000
5-600-1200
6-800-1600
7-1000-2000
8-1200-2400
(Color up T100)
9-1500-3000
10-2000-4000
11-2500-5000
12-3000-6000
13-4000-8000
14-5000-10000
Man, now that I do that the level 8 to 9 seems fine, but the 9-10 seems wacked out big!
I am gonna play around with some numbers and get back to you... |

Chips: 1,581 | | | Re: TOC Blind Structure Suggestions How about this one??
RD-SB-BB
1-100-200
2-200-400
3-300-600
4-500-1000
5-700-1400
6-1000-2000
7-1300-2600
(Color up T100)
8-1500-3000
9-2000-4000
10-2500-5000
11-3000-6000
12-4000-8000
13-5000-10000
I know the 7-8 jump is only 200 but it seemed to be the easiest place to color up the T100, that or I change it to a 1700-3400 which seems like a big jump but it probably the better option, then color up the T100 after that round...

Chips: 298 | | | Re: TOC Blind Structure Suggestions Ok lets look at this in terms of "Logic" of the jumps.
RD-SB-BB
1-100-200
2-200-400 Double the last level (cant be avoided without adding either T50 chips or doing a silly 200-300 level).
3-300-600 1 & 1/2 the previous level
4-500-1000 1 & 2/3 the previous level
5-700-1400 1& 2/5 the previous level
6-1000-2000 1 & 3/7 the previous level
7-1300-2600 1 & 3/10 the previous level
(Color up T100)
8-1500-3000 1 & 2/13 the previous level
9-2000-4000 1 & 1/3 the previous level
10-2500-5000 1 & 1/4 the previous level
11-3000-6000 1 & 1/5 the previous level
12-4000-8000 1 & 2/3 the previous level
13-5000-10000 1 & 1/4 the previous level
Not too bad ut you have some very unusual levels in there (i've never seen a 1300-2600 level). Here would be my suggestion:
Rd-Sm-Bg
1-100-200
2-200-400
3-300-600
4-400-800
5-600-1200
6-800-1600
7-1000-2000
8-1500-3000
9-2000-4000
10-3000-6000
11-4000-8000
12-6000-12000
13-8000-16000
14-10000-20000
15-15000-30000
I this schedule (with a bit of rounding) the blinds double every second level.
If that structure is a bit too fast for you you could go double every third level:
1-200-400
2-300-500
3-300-600
4-400-800
5-500-1000
6-600-1200
7-800-1600
8-1000-2000
9-1200-2400
10-1500-3000
11-2000-4000
12-2500-5000
13-3000-6000
14-4000-8000
15-5000-10000
16-6000-12000
17-8000-16000
18-10000-20000
19-12000-24000
I calculated the estimated total chips in play by taking your current amount of chips in play, dividing it by 3 and multiplying it y 7. That makes the total chips in play roughly 356000. This means the tournament should end roughly when the big blind is between 15000 and 25000, which on the top blind schedule is between levels 13 and 16 (3.20hr and 3.50hr). On the bottom schedule its between levels 17 and 19 (4.05hr and 4.35hr).
I hope this is of some use to you, I have been working quite alot on blind schedules recently so please feel free to point out anything you dislike about the schedule.
Regards

Chips: 1,581 | | | Re: TOC Blind Structure Suggestions USIreland...that is a great post!! I think I will end up using your suggested schedule. I know there were some funny levels [1300?? wtf!! ] in mine but it seemed the only way to keep from including some major jumps around them!
Thanks for sharing your ideas as well! I liked your math with calculating the possible chips in play for the TOC, really puts it into perspective of how many chips there might be on the table!! I can't wait to dig out the half pies!! WOO HOO!!
I would love to see 8 or even 9 players at the following events, but I don't think its gonna happen! Who knows for sure though.
Thanks again for your thoughts! I will update this thread as the tournament progresses.
In case anyone really cares I have attached the .xls sheet that has all the statistics on it. Let me know what you think! |
