My group's next game will be a championship style event freezeout. We usually do rebuy tournaments so what we're going for is something slow and playable. We'd like it to be about 7.5 hours (not including breaks) or so w/ a dinner break of 60 minutes after round 6.

I predict our numbers will be a bit down because of the increased buy in, so around 10 or so players, but I could be surprised either way. The first two rounds are really low just to add some easy play and value for the fishies. Would this play well w/ 10+ players and end around the 3k/6k level or a bit sooner based on that?


The round times are lengthened as the blinds increase as shown. I think this allows folks who get short early more time to recover and still be there for the dinner break.

We also want skill to have the best chance and the longer late levels should help that.

If we for some reason only get 8 players or less, I'm considering altering the schedule to play even slower because the total amount of chips in play may be less and it would end too soon based on that.

I suggest changing from 700-1400 to 600-1200. It is a 200 jump then a 100 jump. So go 500-1000, 600-1200, 800-1600, then 1000-2000. Other than that the blinds are fine. I would keep the rounds the same length. If anything, they should get shorter as the tournament goes one because there will be less players. I would make them all 30-minute rounds. With 30:00 rounds, this will allow for plenty of play for 10 players. You could not play a hand for two hours and still have around 5000-6000 chips I believe. If your group is up for a long tourney, then this is a great structure with plenty of play.

That looks pretty good. Should be fun and allow for lotsa play.

From your description I was expecting something real slow -- like 25/50, 50/100, 75/150, 100/200, 150-300 to start. But that's exceptionally slow and I don't think that's what you want.

BTW, if it were our game we would change your starting stack to 8 x 25 and 13 x 100. Using 12/12 IMO puts too many useless greens on the table. Most of the betting will be with blacks, unless you have tons of limpers.
