How Long Will It Last?

I am having a 24 person tourney. Is there a calculator to tell me how long it will last? I want to do a T1500 with a rebuy/add on of T1000. But I am thinking even with 20 min blinds (standard blind type structure) it will be around 6-7 hours...too long for me. I don't want to shorten blind times (20 is already short) and taking out levels will have the same effect...thoughts?

Re: How Long Will It Last?

Well, first I'd need more information. I'd need the blind schedule (I don't know what a "standard type" blind schedule is), and how long are you hoping for the tournament to last? One way to determine when tourney will end, is when the tournament M is less than 10, it should end very soon. Tournament M is calculated as (total chips in play) / (small blind + big blind). This just means there won't be many chips in play in relation to the blinds, so players will be forced to move chips more aggresively. Hope this helps a little!

EDIT:
Just did a little math. If every player takes the re-buy/add-on, there will be 60000 chips in play. The tournament M will reach 10 when the blinds are 2000/4000. So, structure you're blinds to where you'll be at this level around the time you want the tournament to finish, whether that be 2 hours or 8 hours!

total number of chips in play / 20 = the big blind when the thing will likely end.

work backwards from there.

I run a 1500 no rebuy 20 man tournament twice a month. My tournaments usually go between 4 -5 hours, I use 20 minute blinds, with a structure as follows. We haven't gone past the 1000-2000 mark yet. My guess is with an extra 1000 with my structure you would go between 5 - 6 hours.

10-25
25-50
50-100
75-150

Re: How Long Will It Last?

I like to use the 4% rule where the game ends when the big blind is 4% of the chips in play.

Re: How Long Will It Last?

Great stuff, guys..thanks!!! Oh..BTW when I say "standard blinds" let's not be too much of sticklers here. I am saying any one of many formats where there are maybe 3-4 variences max of blind levels. Thank you all again. K os

I use this too and our tourneys usually finish +/- 1 level of this estimate.
