League TOC

I have recently started a leauge for family friends and co-workers and need some help in determinig the starting chipstacks for the TOC at the end of the year. Here is some tournament backround:

The tournament is held monthly for one year.
The top 10 points months will be taken for each player (2 bye months).
Points are awarded: 5 points for last place with each subsequent place earning an additional 5 points. (Month 1 had 12 players, we anticipate 15 average)
Payout on a weekly basis is 1 paid spot per 4 players. TOC will pay 4 places max.
In order to qualify for the TOC you must participate in 6 or more events.
There is no minimum points to play in the TOC
Starting Chips is 10K monthly with possible 20k for TOC

What I need help in determining is which of the two systems below you would prefer:
a) Each player is given a specific amount of starting chips based on their rank by points. 1st starts with 20k and incrementally decreased per position.
b) The points leader recieves the max chip value (20K) and each player receives the amount of chips as a raio of their points vs. the points leader's points. This would be less structured but would reward play other than ranking. i.e The points leader has 1000 points and second place has 960 points. The second place player would start with (96%) 19,200 chips. A minimum would be set for the lowest rank qualifiers in an effort to entice players to finish out the season even if they arent ranked in the top 8 or more. It would be somthing like 2,000 or 2,500 chips. (This would probably be the same for option a) I guess what I was thinking is that this would reward players for playing well even if they couldnt increase their ranking.

Which would you prefer and why?

Thanks.

Re: League TOC

Well my choice would be A of the two you proposed....

That being said, I would do the opposite. Give everyone in the TOC a base amount for a starting stack and then add onto this, maybe T100 per point, or T25 per point?

I know it seems trivial but subtracting from a base stack seems negative and some players may interpret it that way, even though the same thing is accomplished as adding to a stack. Just the positive person in me I guess.

I hope that my post makes sense...

your forumula is what we use for our satellite tourney to get into our TOC. All stacks in sat tourney are a base of T1500. A T25 chip is added for every 10 points earned during the season. Our league was 37 players this season, with 15 qualifiers in the TOC, 1 seat open for the Sat winner making the TOC a 16 player event.

TOC stacks are the same for everyone as it is a freeroll.
