Chips: 271 | | | T20,000 10 person Tourney advice Alright, so I am going to use the USPC blind schedule with NO antes which is here: 1 $25 / $50
2 $50 / $100
3 $75 / $150
4 $100 / $200
5 $150 / $300
6 $200 / $400
7 $200 / $500
8 $300 / $600 $100
9 $400 / $800 $100
10 $500 / $1,000 $200
11 $600 / $1,200 $200
12 $800 / $1,600 $300
13 $1,000 / $2,000 $300
14 $1,200 / $2,400 $400
15 $1,500 / $3,000 $500
16 $2,000 / $4,000 $500
17 $2,500 / $5,000 $500
18 $3,000 / $6,000 $1,000
19 $4,000 / $8,000 $1,000
20 $5,000 / $10,000 $1,000
21 $6,000 / $12,000 $2,000
22 $8,000 / $16,000 $2,000
23 $10,000 / $20,000 $3,000
24 $12,000 / $24,000 $4,000
25 $15,000 / $30,000 $5,000
26 $20,000 / $40,000 $5,000
It will be 10 people, 20,000 in starting chips, and here is what I want your thoughts on.
I was going to use the USPC starting stack of:
12 - 25
12 - 100
7 - 500
10 -1000
1 - 5000
But, I don't know if I will end up needing a $5000 chip until close to the end. So here is what I was thinking (keep in mind, I like big stacks!):
20 - 25
20 - 100
15 - 500
10 - 1000
What do you think about the starting chips? Should I have a $5000 to start?
Thanks, |

Chips: 298 | | | Re: T20,000 10 person Tourney advice How long do you have for this tournament? With 10 players and that size starting stack I dont expect this to end until Level 20-23. Even with 10min levels thats 4 hours, a reasnable length would be 20min levels, giving a near 8hr tournament.
Also I'd suggest leaving the 25's in play until the level 7 and playing that level as 250/500 rather than 200/500.
As for starting stack, I think 20/20/15/10 is a huge amount of chips but if your happy that you've got enough chips and your players can handle this number of chips (remenber that 650chips on the table) then go ahead. Me personally I'd go with 12/12/13/12. Puts enough chips on the table but not too many.
Cheers

Chips: 1,132 | | | Re: T20,000 10 person Tourney advice After just recently running a 63 person tourney with $5000 starting stacks, you will definitely want the $5000 chip in play once the big blind gets to that level...
Once you get to not needing the $500's, get them out of play ASAP.
Then, there are people who won't want to part with their chips and not want to color up. If they can put in a stack of chips without counting each one, fine. But if they are chip illiterate, just reach out onto the table when they post their blinds and switch them out as play goes on. |

| I think you could do without the $5K to start with, but I would avoid the huge stacks of chips. I think it would have one of two impacts on the table...they will either become super loose ("I got lots o chips let's splash around!", or super tight (I like having all these chips, I don't want to give any up!"); neither is a real positive aspect. I think it could be done, and I think it would be a neat experiment to try out both starting stacks with the same group of guys and see if it makes a difference. Like I had said in the other thread it really does come down to the types of players and the experiences they have to see how this would all work out. Quote:

I am curious because in smitty's original USPC thread I thought it would end sooner than that. I know that you have had more experience with large tournies so I was just curious about your thinking.
Thanks....and sorry for the obvious threadjack smitty |

My calculations are based on the 10Big Blinds left in play and it'll be over. 10players with 20,000chips is 200,000 so I calculate it would be end with approximate blinds of 10k/20k. Sometimes it will end when there's approximately 20 big blinds in play, this would be 5k/10k hence my pridiction of between level 20 and level 23. Thats my calculations I could be wrong but that would be my guess.
Cheers

Chips: 2,081 | | | Re: T20,000 10 person Tourney advice I used to have a regular STT going with a T20K starting stack. No 25s.
At the time, I was using pharaohs and gave out:
20 100s, 16 500s, 10 1000s.
For my next tourney set (I don't have the pharaohs anymore) I was thinking:
20-10-8-1, using a 5000 chip for T20K. You could get away with 15-11-8-1 I think, but for the occasions where we use antes, I think it is easier with a full 20-stack of 100s each to start.
As for a blinds schedule, we did:
100/200
200/400
300/600
500/1000
700/1500
1000/2000
1500/3000
2000/4000
3000/6000
4000/8000
6000/12000 Quote:

Ian | That is some good thinking. Kind of goes along the line of what I was thinking: when a standard raise (3xBB) puts in 1/5th to 1/8th of your stack. At this point in the tourney your pretty much push or fold.
