100 Player Tournament 2Day Event

Hello

Ok this is the big Main Event I have planned for the near future (End of May Kind of Time).

Here is a basic break down of the plan.
Day 1:
Will be Held in a Hotel.
Dedicated Dealer for Each Table.
Starting with 10Tables of 10People.
Alternates will be taken for the first two blind levels.
As we start to loose players we will make tables of 9 players.
Day 1 will play down to a final table of 10players.
The Round Times will be 40min

Day 2:
Will Recommence in a Casino in Wicklow Hopefully if not I need to find a suitable pub venue.
The entire table will be paid.
The Round Times will be 60min.

Now for the last number of days I've been playing around with a few ideas. First of all the minimum starting stack will be T10,000. I have toyed with the idea of T15,000 or T20,000 starting stacks but I'm really not sure if this is the way to go or not so I need some opinions there.

The blind schedule also needs to be nice and smooth I don’t want any huge jumps after the first few levels. I based the schedule on The 2006 WSOP Main Event, The WSOP 2006 Short Handed 2500 Event and the EPT blind schedule. Here is what I came up with:
Ante-Small-Big
0-25-50
0-50-100
0-100-200
25-100-200
25-150-300
50-200-400
75-300-600
100-400-800
100-500-1000
200-600-1200
200-800-1600
300-1000-2000
400-1500-3000
500-2000-4000
500-3000-6000
1000-4000-8000
1000-5000-10000
2000-6000-12000
2000-8000-16000
3000-10000-20000
4000-15000-30000
5000-20000-40000
5000-30000-60000
10000-40000-80000
10000-50000-100000

With my calculations of 100 players Day 1 should end at approximately level 14/15. At this point there are 100M & 76M in play respectively which would mean that if there are more than 10 players there'd be some very short stacks. With 40min Levels, 5 min breaks at the end of each level and a 50min dinner break that should be between 22.30 and 24.00 if play starts at 12noon.

What are people’s opinions of the Blind Schedule?
Should the break be at the end of each level or group them together at the end of every 3levels to give a 15min break?
Should I add in a 25/25level to make the tournament extra deep stack (estimated finishing time 23.00-24.50)?
Should I give out 15,000 and leave the blinds as it is (estimated finishing time 23.15-24.40)?
Should I give out 20,000 and leave the
blind schedule as it is (estimated finishing time 24.00-01.30)?
Should I give out 20,000 and start the blinds at 50/100 meaning the ante starts 1 round earlier (estimated finishing time 23.00-24.50)?
Have I missed something?

Thanks in Advance?
Cheers
Ian

Ok its been up for a week and nobody has posted anything? Am i to take it that the structure is great or is it just that the structure is so poor nobody even wants to start?

Cheers

Re: 100 Player Tournament 2Day Event

Sorry I just found this.

I think the schedule looks good, only suggestion would be take out the 150/300 level and add a 2500/5000.

Just a thought.

Re: 100 Player Tournament 2Day Event

That was one of the things that was bugging me, but I felt if I add a 2500/5000 level then I really need a 250/500 level aswell and I certinly dont have time for two more levels.

Do you think my predictions time wise seem about right?

And what are your thoughts on the breaks?
Cheers
Ian

Re: 100 Player Tournament 2Day Event

The reason for cutting the 150/300 was due to chip color up. But you would actually need them for 2 more round because of the 50 and 75 ante. I don't know.

I don't think that adding the 2500/5000 means you need to have a 250/500 though I just thought a smaller step at that higher blinds would be better.

Also you might want to look at your antes and compare the percentage of the ante to the BB. I thought that some of them looked a little small compare to the amount of the BB, but without doing some calculations I can't say for certain.

About the breaks, I was thinking that if you went with 45 min levels you could take a 30 min break after 4 levels, that would be 3 hrs 30 per 4 levels, and after 8 levels you could take a dinner break of 1 hr instead of 30 min. That or go with 50 min levels and take a 10 min break after each similar to WSOP, and the dinner break after 8 hrs would be 1 hr long. That would keep everything even, but will add some time onto the length of the tourney.

Something else to consider is the type of players involved. IF they are mostly novices then this probably won't last as long as you think. If they are seasoned it will probably take longer than you think. But you probably already thought of this!

Re: 100 Player Tournament 2Day Event

The Playing standard is interesting. I have some very good players at my tournaments, I have some very poor players at my tournament (Like last night, board showed 3 diamonds, guy moves all in and everyone fold, he turns over his cards and goes look what a Great hand I have, I have and Ace (ace of hearts) and a diamond (the 2!!!!! of diamonds). If i'd made that move my cards would have been buried so deep nobody would ever find them). The standard overall is about average (the majority find it tough to lay hands like pocket pairs and AK down preflop and post flop). But I'd have to say that the tournaments generally get down to a final table when there are between 120 and 80 big blinds left in play.

I've posted the blind schedule with the timings and % ante compaired to the big blind, the plan is to have the ante approximately 1/8th the big blind (The EPT uses 1/10th and the wsop uses 1/6th so my attempt to balance them looks like this):

Round No - Ante - Small Blind - Big Blind - Start Time - End Time - Break - %Ante - No of Players left approx
1 - 0 - 25 - 50 - 12.00 - 12.40 - 5 - 0% - Full
2 - 0 - 50 - 100 - 12.45 - 13.25 - 5 - 0 - Full
3 - 0 - 100 - 200 - 13.30 - 14.10 - 5 - 0 - Full
4 - 25 - 100 - 200 - 14.15 - 14.55 - 5 - 12.5% - Full
5 - 25 - 150 - 300 - 15.00 - 15.40 - 5 - 8.33% - Full
6 - 50 - 200 - 400 - 15.45 - 16.25 - 5 - 12.5% - Full
7 - 75 - 300 - 600 - 16.30 - 17.10 - 50 - 12.5% - 66 ****
8 - 100 - 400 - 800 - 18.00 - 18.40 - 5 - 12.5% - 50
9 - 100 - 500 - 1000 - 18.45 - 19.25 - 5 - 10% - 44
10 - 200 - 600 - 1200 - 19.30 - 20.10 - 5 - 16.67% - 30
11 - 200 - 800 - 1600 - 20.15 - 20.55 - 5 - 12.5% - 25
12 - 300 - 1000 - 2000 - 21.00 - 21.40 - 5 - 15% - 19
13 - 400 - 1500 - 3000 - 21.45 - 22.25 - 5 - 13.33% - 13
14 - 500 - 2000 - 4000 - 22.30 - 23.10 - 5 - 12.5% - 10
15 - 500 - 3000 - 6000 - 23.15 - 23.55 - 5 - 8.33% - 8
16 - 1000 - 4000 - 8000 - 24.00 - 24.40 - 5 - 12.5% - 5
17 - 1000 - 5000 - 10000 - 24.40 - 01.20 - 5 - 10% - 4
18 - 2000 - 6000 - 12000 - 01.25 - 02.00 - End Of Day - 16.66% - 3

*** This is where the 50min dinner break will go it was my mistake in saying after level 9. It is also the time for the chip race for T25 chips (convienient??)

The calculation for number of players left is done on the total number of M left in play divided by 10 (once you have less than 10M your short stacked) so play for day 1 should finnish before we get to less than 100M in play (or else the final table will be very short stacked). As you can see it calculates that were down to 10 players after round 14 which finishes at 23.10 but should definately be down to 10 by the 23.55 which is when there is 80M left in play. Also before someone says something yes I do expect some people to be eliminated before level 7 but I think by the time we get to level 7 we will be down to 66ish players whether there all eliminated during level 6 or at various stages during levels 1-6.

I think the ante's are at nice amounts not too low that they make no difference but not so much that it becomes a shove fest.

The blind levels the following day dont make too much of a difference with 60min on the clock that will more be dictated by the hands that people having to go all in. But I guess maybe 4-5hr's. The final table begins at 16.30 the following day and the club does not close until 02.00 so we should be safe enough that way.

Let me know your thoughts on that layout?

Cheers
Ian
