Chips: 1,041 | | | t 15,000 STUD or maybe 10,000..help i'm a stud tourney newbie. Okay, I'm getting together a set of my dream chips. I posted about NL holdem tournies a few posts down but i also want to run a stud and maybe a horse tourney.
chip set = 600 chips
180 25's
210 100's
140 500's
50 1000's
20 5000's
so i looked at a thread about stud tournies and looked at the world series schedule and came up with..
start stack
20 - 25's = 500
20 - 100's = 2000
11 - 500's = 5500
2- 1000's = 2000
and (perhaps) 1 - 5000.
a lot of chips i know...but once i color up the 25's it will drop a lot..and for the first 2 hours you need plenty of them.
blinds = 30 mins long
ante/low card/completion/limits
25/50/150/150-300
50/50/200/200-400
75/100/300/300-600
100/100/400/400-800
REMOVE 25'S
100/200/600/600-1200
200/200/800/800-1600
300/500/1500/1500-3000
500/500/2000/2000-4000
REMOVE 100'S
500/1000/3000/3000-6000
1000/1000/4000/4000-8000
REMOVE 500'S
1000/2000/6000/6000-12000
2000/2000/8000/8000-16000
2000/4000/12000/12000-24000
4000/4000/16000/16000-32000
so...how is that..should i have 10,000 or 15,000 in chips? how are the levels..increases..etc.
one last thing...it would be fun to use stud and other games in a cash game..have the game change every 1/2 hour or whatever.
say i'm doing 25c/50c NL holdem 50 dollar max.
for the stud would it be fair to make it
25c/25c/50c/50c-1$
and if i'm doing 1/2 200 max
for stud
1/1/2/2-4
thank you everyone! |

Chips: 2,986 | | | Re: t 15,000 STUD or maybe 10,000..help i'm a stud tourney newbie. You should search the forums. I've posted my T50,000 HORSE chip breakdown before (maybe even do an advanced search on my posts). Basically, I follow the 2006 WSOP blinds / betting structures for the most part (with some slight modifications... and faster blind levels, of course). You can find them here: http://www.worldseriesofpoker.com/ev...?eventid=36507
My T50,000 HORSE starting stacks are:
15 x T100
15 x T500
11x T1000
6x T5000
although now that I have more T100s coming, I might start with 20-16-10-6.
For strictly stud tourneys (high, high/low, or razz), I go with something like the 2-day Razz T1500 structure (see that link above) but generally try to make each value twice the previous value (i.e. bring-in is 2 X ante; small bet is 2 X bring-in; big bet is 2 X big bet). That makes things simpler and easier to remember.
T1500:
ante / bring-in / small bet / big bet
5 / 5 / 10 / 20
5 / 10 / 20 / 40
10 / 20 / 40 / 80
15 / 25 / 50 / 100
20 / 35 / 75 / 150
25 / 50 / 100 / 200
...
If you multiply these by 5, you'll get something that's reasonably good for a T10,000-T15,000 (and then you could skip the first level if you want).

Chips: 2,986 | | | Re: t 15,000 STUD or maybe 10,000..help i'm a stud tourney newbie. Actually, why don't I just give you the link to my spreadsheet: http://individual.utoronto.ca/jdunfo...rai_Palace.pdf
There are several pages (HORSE and Stud are towards the end).
If you're wondering why the levels keep getting shorter, my players are pretty quick acting, and don't like the levels to drag when the table gets short-handed. I'd prefer they were all 20-minutes, but that would just be too long for them. |

thanks!
the spreadsheet has helped me immensely...i love the HORSE at the end.
I am going to follow the HORSE to a T but i'm going to change the blinds (make them longer and have less levels) for the NL hold em tournies (also buy more chips to make it 10 max)
thanks again..the spreadsheet is awesome. |

| Nah, the antes are way too high compared to the limits. Why not revert to your (excellent) tournament structure and go 25c/25c/$1.50/$1.50-$3... that would be way better. Quote:

| If most people have $200 in front of them, then $3/$6 Stud is for sure the way to go. $1/$1/$3/$3-$6.
The problem with making the antes too high compared to the limits is (1) You are more likely to have tons of players calling completions and 2-bets and (2) The limits you wanted to use are way to low for the stack sizes most of the players have in front of them. |

Chips: 2,986 | | | Re: t 15,000 STUD or maybe 10,000..help i'm a stud tourney newbie. Since I already gave you my *secret* spreadsheet (LOL), here's what I do for (relatively low-stakes) stud cash games - including high, high/low, and razz (excluding the doubling bet on 4th street pairs, of course): http://individual.utoronto.ca/jdunford/Samurai_Stud.pdf
For those too lazy to look at it, we play 5c ante, 10c bring-in, 25c small bet (3rd-4th street), and 50c big bet (5th-6th street); $1 on the river. 3 raises to cap (i.e. $1 cap on 3rd-4th, $2 on 5th-6th, $4 on 7th). It may not sound like much, but pots are typically $10 +/- $4, which is about the same as our 25c/50c NLHE cash games (except the deviation is bigger for NL of course).
(I actually recommend $20-40 buy-in, but some players prefer to buy-in for $10 and then add-on/re-buy several times if/when they get low... doesn't really matter since it's fixed limit)
The only other resources I can give you can be found at my "league" site: http://individual.utoronto.ca/jdunford/CPT/
Enjoy.
