Chips: 1,140 | | | Running a$100 buy in, 50 people tourney questions... If you were to buy into a $100 tournament with about 30-50 people, and planned on an all day and into the night game...the question is:
What do you think would be the best starting stack size and blind structure that would allow for the really good players to play their game?
i.e. $10,000 in starting chips with a slow blind structure?

Sucks if you smoke, though...

I haven't played in anything like this, but that can't stop me from making suggestions. How about something like this really nice and slow structure.
10k stacks. 45 minute levels. 200xBB. With 50 people there's 500k in play, so it should end around 20k-25k big blind. I'd expect you to get down to final table somewhere around level 10 after 7-8 hours of play..
12-13 hours total plus a couple breaks. Too long? Drop a level or two, or make the last few levels 30 mins, as there are less players anyway and the action should be faster.
1. 25-50
2. 50-100 (25's color up after this already. Might be more practical to start with 100-100 as the first level, but this is CT)
3. 100-200
4. 200-400
5. 300-600
6. 400-800
7. 600-1200
8. 800-1600
9. 1000-2000
10. 1500-3000
11. 2000-4000
12. 3000-6000
13. 4000-8000
14. 6000-12000
15. 8000-16000
16. 10000-20000
17. 15000-30000
EDIT: Oh, and add antes at later stages if you're into them. |

Chips: 298 | | | Re: $100 buy in, 30-50 people tourney questions... Lets See, Start at 1pm with a 1hr break at 5/6pm for dinner. Finish time anything up to 3am say? That gives 13hr's of play.
Play it Like the WSOP Short Handed Schedule except 10k starting stack:
Ante- Small Blind - Big Blind
0 - 25 - 25
0 - 25 - 50
0 - 50 - 100
0 - 100 - 200
25 - 100 - 200
25 - 150 - 300
50 - 200 - 400
75 - 300 - 600
100 - 400 - 800
200 - 600 - 1200
200 - 800 - 1600
300 - 1000 - 2000
400 - 1500 - 3000
500 - 2000 - 4000
1000 - 3000 - 6000
1000 - 4000 - 8000
1000 - 5000 - 10000
30min Levels with the final table levels being 45min.
There will be plenty of play even when the blinds get to 5000-10000 there are still between 30 and 50 big blinds on the table more than enough for some play when it gets down to that stage. If your still struggling to get it finnished go to 6000 - 12000 and 8000 - 16000 but I doubt they'd be necessary.
Let me know your thoughts
Cheers

Chips: 1,140 | | | Re: $100 buy in, 30-50 people tourney questions... Thanks for the replies so far. This is going to be a real tournament and I'm possibly going to be the tourney director so the host can play. There will also be side cash games breaking out with those who have been elimiated, so keeping track of chips is going to be one big issue.
Any other suggestions from those who have done one of these are clearly welcome.
The tourney is at the end of the month. |

Just use two sets of chips. Unless you are afraid of people walking with them... In that case use a set of Faux for one of the games.
