Blind Structure Assistance

Looking for advise on a good/better blind structure. My home tournament consists of anywhere from 20-40 people and T20000 (as I have and like alot of chips on table). Last weekends tourney ended at Midnight (6:30start) and the blinds finished at 4000/8000 with 462,000 chips in play.
Starting Stacks
10x100
10x500
9x1000
1x5000

Current blinds at 20min
100-200
200-400
300-600
400-800
B
500-1000
1000-2000
1500-3000
2000-4000
B
2500-5000
3000-6000
3500-7000
4000-8000
B
5-10
6-12
7-14
8-16
9-18
It didn't seem (and I didn't hear anyone say) that the blinds were playing a major factor.
Should the schedule be more aggressive? Can anyone offer up suggestions?
I like the 20min blinds to begin with, but not apposed to them going to 15min after 2nd break. Would also not like to see tournament go past 1:00am (which it hasn't yet).
Thanks

Re: Blind Structure Assistance

Is there something specific that you are trying to fix?

It just didn't seem like the blinds played any major factor in people's play.

With 462,000 chips in play, final table started at 3-6 and finished at 4-8.

Re: Blind Structure Assistance

OK, I think I misunderstood that point in the OP.

Well, final table starts at 3k/6k and 462k chips in play, say 8 players, giving everyone an average 'M' of 6.4

Given a bit of variation on stack size, you might expect a few players to have M of 4 or less, i.e. 30-40K. That should certainly have an effect on the way that they played.

If you wanted to push the pace along a little quicker you might increase the ratio of the blinds in the later stages but looking again, it seems that the ratios jump about a bit all the way along.

ratios for the first few increases of the bb are:

x2 , x1.5, x1.33, x1.25, x2, x1.5 etc

You could try to smooth this out a little if you wanted.

Re: Blind Structure Assistance

There's nothing to fix. If the game finished at 4k/8k your players are probably playing too aggressively. Fix that, and your blinds will be fine :P

Blinds are supposed to put pressure on the players to finish the tournament within a reasonable time. If you want the tournament to end around blind level 7k/14k ~ 10k/20k then your structure looks fine. However, I'd prefer to cut out the 3.5k/7k level and make the final set of blinds be something like:

4k/8k
5k/10k
8k/16k
10k/20k

The 5k, 6k, 7k, 8k, 9k increment might be a little slow.
