Re: Payout Structure

It might be the font kerning, try courier, sometimes that'll keep the layout better.

For the home games I play in we break the payouts into buy-in amounts

so that...

Players Place
____1__2__3
3 __3
4 __3 __1
5 __3 __2
6 __4 __2
7 __4 __2 _1

This eliminates the need to calculate percentages and keeps the amounts nice round figures.
For most games, once it's down to the players getting payouts, some sort of chop is agreed on. This keeps it friendly and gets the others back into the game sooner.

Here is an example...
with a $7 buy- in and seven players, we would pay...
1st . . . $28
2nd . . . $14
3rd . . . . $7

also we usually have at least a $1 or $2 bounty in play.
and in the case of a chop if say once heads up the stacks were even the players might agree on $21 each.

HTH

Re: Payout Structure

...not sure what your buy-in is, but if it's $20 I have one I typed out and rounded off to make the payouts WAY easier than running a straight %. Email me if you want it and I'll send you the PDF.

That's the problem we had, and the buy-in seemed to change on a game by game basis. That's a big reason I came up with the buy-in based scale.
I tried to incorporate half-buyins into the scale but players did't like the idea of getting change in there payouts. go figure.

Jonah -- maybe it's way late but I'm confused here -- I was responding to the original post (by BCR_9er), not yours when I commented on the payout. Gosh, I must be missing something.

As far as the buy-in changing, I'd just set the law down that it does not change. Of course having said that I do a $20 normal buy-in but once in a while we do $30 but the extra $10 is a bounty paid on each player so it really doesn't change the payout structure. OK, I'm going to bed. Best of luck!

Re: Payout Structure

My tournaments range in number of players (have only been doing it a couple months, so the "regulars" are still growing). Right now, I pay out like this:

8 players or less:
1st Place: 65%
2nd Place: 35%

9 Players or more:
1st Place: 60%
2nd Place: 30%
3rd Place: 10%

The buy in is $20. And I always make a "rough" round to those figures, so everything comes to an even $5 or $10 divisible number (it's hard enough to get people to bring $5s and $10s instead of just a $20... if I started paying out to the dollar, I'd have to set up a bank at my house). However, since it IS a rough round, I let everyone know what the payouts are going to be BEFORE the game is started. That way, if I place 2nd or something, nobody things I'm rounding in my favor.

Plus, at $20, even at 9 players, the 3rd place person breaks even. I don't pay out anything under break even.
