I'm running a two-table "shootout" this week, and have begun to wonder about the structure.
When the tourney goes heads-up between the two table winners, should I keep the blinds as they are with no change? Or should I re-set the blinds to a higher or lower pre-determined level?
I'd guess that by the point the tables finish, the average chip stack will be small compared to the blinds, so I'd bring it down a bit.
Ideally, I'd look for a structure with enough room to play, not just a fold/push situation. With that in mind, I'd go for a starting chip stack for the heads-up final of around 30 big blinds, raising after 15-20 mins.
At the BARGE stud shootout, the winners of each of the tables essentially "start over" with the same out of chips as the first table. Its pretty simple to do it that way. They basically have to win the same sit-n-go twice (except that in past years the "final table" was really 2 tables since there were more than 80 players who wanted in. This is stud of course but it can be applied to NLH just the same.
The payouts for the tables are flattened compared to a lot of tournies. So the 2nd place from each table gets a little something, and then anyone at the final table (winning stage one) gets more. The higher you go, the more you get.
