Chips: 1,031 | | | HELP HELP...My 1st poker tournament is on saturday and I don't want to %^k it up...I bought a poker bracelet for the winner so you know this is high class..HA! Here is may plan...$50 buy-in and may have up to 20 people so I thought we would play 3 quick sit and go games and award points and the top 9 in points get to the final table for all the $$$...winner of the sit and go's wins $25 (half the entry fee) and I pay top 3 for the main event winners...
Sit and go setup
$50,000 chips
500x20
1000x5
5000X5
10000X1
structure
500/1000
1000/2000
2000/4000
2500/5000
5000/10000
Blinds go up every 15 minutes and I do this to try and get the game over in a hour or so...what do you think? too aggressive? more chips? need to slow down some??...on the main event.. im kinda lost as well..i thought maybe doubling up to $100,000 buy in and slow the blinds down to each 1/2 hour..we are starting at 7pm so I wanna get all the inmates (married men such as myself..do'oh!!) home before we have a riot on our hands..the women are coming too so I am a little concerned about that as drama follows all the women/gf's we know but I will deal..anywho...let me know what you think.. |

why not just one tourney designed to last 4-6h and just pay out the top 3? |

y not just 2 tables of 10 and then merge to one when u have onli 10 playas left?
if ur plan is to run 4 1 hr tournaments, ( 3 SnG's and a main event) this will take 4 hrs as well so a single 4 hr tournament mite be a better option
it wood allow for better poker as well rather than a crap shoot
neway good luck no matter how u run it |

Do you want the entire thing to get over in an hour? That seems like quite the task, especially with the number of people you have. |

I am thinking blinds every 20 minutes...should be better that way...thanks for the help and keep coming with the advice |

I would have one main tourney with a good blind structure, designed to last 3ish hours (maybe make it $30 buy in). As people bust out, then start $10 sngs designed to last an hour or so. Same amount of poker for $50, better play all around and fun for both good and bad players.
Just my .02.

Stacks are big, but let me see if I've got the concept right.
A couple sit-n-go games where the best finishers play a main event for $20?
Is that right?
Things to consider with players. You will not get a whole lot of hands in without some dealer errors or problems with the game. That is to be expected and not a big deal. The problem is that the time keeps running and blinds time is taken up by, small mistakes. I advocate padding the blind schedules a little.
But more importantly, which chips are you using?

5000/10000 | your house your rules whatever, but since you asked...
I think 50xbb is a pretty small starting stack but doable. I like the whole "millionaire poker" idea though and its very vouge right now. I say your blinds definitely need work and your t500 chips are almost completely wasted considering they make up the majority of your starting chips so I would suggest getting more use out of them either through different blinds or using antes, so here you go:
sb/bb/ante
500/1000
1000/2000
2500/5000/500
5000/10000/1000
7500/15000/1500
color up t500
10000/20000/2000
15000/30000/3000
color up t1000
25000/50000/5000
or (no ante but taking advantage of t500 as much as possible)
500/1000
1500/3000
2500/5000
3500/7000
5000/10000
7500/15000
color up t500 & t1000 (yeah i'm a genius, lol)
10000/20000
15000/30000
25000/50000
and to get this over as quickly as you'd like, you'd have to have 10 min levels and then 5 min levels after 1 hour. still makes for quite a crap shoot imo and i do agree with others a simpler, less complex, simple sit and go approach would probably be more enjoyable. you are definitely encouraging loose aggressive play. |

But more importantly, which chips are you using? | The buy in is $50 and I pay the winners of the sit and go's $25 ...the rest goes into the pot and of that pot I pay the top 3 winners in the main event...I am not a big fan of high blinds but I have to keep it moving along some what. I would normally just do one big tourny but I don't think my turnout would be as high just for one game... so much to think about...I will get their with your help..just have to think some more..
Oh yeah the chips
I am using my new bellagio tournament set.
I have 1200 total
400 - $500
200 - $1000
300 - $5000
150 - $10000
100 - $25000
50 - $100000
I would use my MGQ chipcos but I have grown very attached to them...Last time I played some drunk guy knocked them over and I spent 20 minutes counting all of them...They are too expensive for just any joe schmo to be touching so I save those for small games with people I trust...just imo...
I would invite you H but I think we would be hearing "ringer" accusations lol ..definetely sometime we will have to play!
