seven card stud tourney structure?

good morning everyone,my question today is what is the best starting stack for a 7 card stud tournie?,probably 8 people and when we play holdem we usually play with 3000 in chips,I was thinking probably 5000 for this one due to the ante, any advice and or tournie structures would help thanks

When in doubt:

http://www.worldseriesofpoker.com/ev...?eventid=36507

All the Championship events you can click on and see the blinds/antes schedule. So just go find the 5K buyin Stud event and you can copy that =]

Re: seven card stud tourney structure?

http://www.chiptalk.net/forum/tourna...highlight=stud

As I said there I think it's better to do fewer and longer levels but bigger jumps. I do a T2000 and where normally I do 20 minute levels for HE I do at least 30 minutes for Stud.

I'll dig up my actual ante/bring in/3-4/5-7 structure which should work for you as I do one table. For my flop games I carry my charts out to level 14+, Stud probably not past level 10.

Try something like this:

25/25/50/100
25/50/100/200
50/50/100/200
50/100/200/400
75/150/300/600
100/200/400/800
150/300/600/1200
200/400/800/1600
etc.

There's plenty of ways to soften the jumps if that's what you're looking for.

Those antes are way too large compared to the limits.

Re: seven card stud tourney structure?

With the proviso that I skip the initial T5 section of the party for efficiencies sake, It's very close to the Texas TEARS system which both of my tourney structures are based on:

http://texstears.com/SLRE1.html

It does seem a bit aggressive when you compare stack size to bets but I find that element has the proper "calming" effect on a Stud tournament. That and as I said I run the levels longer. If things seem really tight somtimes I'll up starting stacks but in general it's worked well for me (one table).

Wouldn't 7 players be the max per table? 8 players would require 56 cards?

I've always wondered ... although it rarely (if ever) happens (but it can), what if all the players go down to 7th street? How would that be handled?

HA! The few times I played it , quite a long time ago, as a cash game, everybody would stay in til the bitter end. Seems like it was hi-lo split and some wild cards too. It was crazy but a lot of fun. Definitely not standard or accepted rules. I've never tried playing it like it's supposed to be - that might definitely make a difference. Looks like a good game to me, but I don't have much experience with it.
