Re: Need help with the 'M' factor for blinds

I ended up with the original formula plus 2 variants to handle additional players. This calculator can best be described as a parallel to jmc's delayed blind structure. If you want to play around with it or try it out it's attached (I hope).

I basically made some levels at the beginning based on each player's staring stack. The first big blind is 1% of that, then 2%, etc. up to 10. Stopping at 10 makes the math a little easier in the second half. The second part uses exponential increases to bridge the gap from 10% of a player's starting stack to the SB + BB = 10% of all chips in play. The pattern of the math should be relatively easy to see, so it can be changed to fit different needs (i.e. remove a level or two to make a 3 to 3 1/2 hr. tourney).

There's a column for rounding the BB, which will be to a different denomination depending on the starting amount, at what point different chips will be colored-up, etc. I usually print two or three blinds schedules based on the number of players and anticipated number of rebuys. For example, if I have 10 players I'll print a schedules for 10, 13 and 16 total buys. This insures a 4 hour tourney no matter what.

Have fun with it, and I'm always open to positive and negative criticisms.

Re: Need help with the 'M' factor for blinds

Thanks admins!

Keep in mind a few things about this, since I couldn't make it a truly dynamic calc:
- it's just a basic calc, nothing fancy, but some bright colors
- a 5 to 8 total buy game will probably end a little sooner than 4 hrs (at 20 mins/level)
- some cells are rounded to the nearest 25; these will have to be manually changed as needed for different starting stack values and color-up times
- this is designed for a starting big blind = 1% of the starting stack. To change it to 2%, change the multiplicand in cells B5, I5, and P5 from 0.005 to 0.01 and the divisor in cells B17, I17, and P17 from 20 to 10

Re: Need help with the 'M' factor for blinds

Cool spreadsheet. I also think about "total economy" but I don't understand math at the level you all apparently do.

I am not as concerned with forcing the tournament to end "on time" so I just used monkey math to create a sheet about like your attached .xls in my tournament breakdown spreadsheet and guessed.

It's on a mothballed hard-drive right now so I'll have to get back to ya re my initial structure.

BTW, to post a spreadsheet with formatting use the code tags.
