Chips: 6,850 | | | Blinds for T5000 SNG My home game is thinking about doing some STTs. And lucky for them, I already have the chips to run such a game (SURPRISE!). The problem is blinds -- when we play tournaments (about twice a year), we use a very slow structure because we want a 5-6 hour game. For this, we would want the game to last somewhere around 3 hours (not much more).
(We played a few of these in Chicago, but, of course, someone else had blind schedules.)
For chips, I have the lovely matsui zens. Starting stack:
25 -- 12
100 -- 12
500 -- 5
1000 -- 1
Because of limited budget, I have enough 100s to color up the 25s, but only a few extra 25s, so we can't start with more 25s than that. (And I do have enough of the 500s and 1000s to color the 100s.)
One other thing: play is SLOW. They refuse to use two decks, so we need 20 minute rounds in order to come close to one orbit per level.
Thanks for any and all help!! |

For 20 min blinds to end in 3 hours - you gotta have pretty good increases in blinds between rounds. Your 9th round should be heads up with average stacks of 25k (5k x 10 players?) or 3 players with average stacks of 16-17k.
With slow play (only one deck etc) it becomes more about good cards and luck.
25/50
50/100
100/200 (1 hour mark)
150/300 - color up 25s
300/600
500/1000 (2 hour mark) - color up 100s
1000/2000
1500/3000
2000/4000 (3 hour mark)
May work - tweak it some.

Seriously, after three years of play in which the same players generally win (and on the other hand, the same two or three players lose their whole buy-in almost every week), they STILL think poker is all about luck....
Thanks for the blind schedule. I just thought it would be fun to mix it up once in a while by playing a STT. Not to mention that it would be nice to actually play with my zens instead of just admiring them! |

We've been using this T5000 blind schedule for a long time. (We start with an 8/13/3/2 chipstack, so yours look fine.) You can adjust the level timing to get your desired tourney length.
For us, an 8-10 player tourney usually ends about level 9, 10, or 11. This schedule is a little bit slower than Matthew's, and actually we end up skipping level 5 and/or 7 once in a while, depending on how fast/slow things are going.
Level...SB.......BB
1.......$25......$50
2.......$50......$100
3.......$75......$150
4.......$100.....$200
5.......$150.....$300
6.......$200.....$400
7.......$300.....$600
8.......$500.....$1,000
9.......$1,000...$2,000
10......$1,500...$3,000
11......$2,000...$4,000
12......$3,000...$6,000
13......$4,000...$8,000
14......$5,000...$10,000 |

Be sure and let us know what you do and how it works out.
We've been doing T200 for a long time - but went to a T3000 last night. Gives 99%Evil an excuse to sell his chips and buy new ones.

Chips: 6,850 | | | Re: Blinds for T5000 SNG I was going to PM Matthew to thank him for moving this thread, but I thought it was high time for another public shout-out: THANK YOU!! CT MODS ARE THE BEST!!!
I have no idea whether the home-game folks will actually want to play the STTs. We had a little party last night for one of our players who just got tenure, and I mentioned the possibility then. There seemed to be some interest, so we will see. I just want to be prepared in case it might happen -- it would be a nice change from our usual game, which is very low-stakes limit ring holdem. Not to mention my ulterior motive: getting to play with my zens! |

Chips: 6,496 | | | Re: Blinds for T5000 SNG here's my suggestion for t5000
level sb/bb
1. 25/50
2. 50/100
3. 75/150
4. 100/200
5. 150/300
6. 200/400
7. 300/600
8. 500/1000
9. 700/1400
10. 1000/2000
11. 1500/3000
12. 2000/4000
i prefer the blinds not to double from one level to another if possible, especially late in the structure. doubling the blinds late in the tourney forces players to play marginal hands.
the number of players will affect when this structure ends. assuming 10 players and with 20min blinds, it should end at level 10 at 3h20m.
if you're converting cash players to tournaments it's probably a good idea to have a non-aggressive structure with a generous payout. a rebuy tourney wouldn't be a bad idea either; it'll keep the early bust-outs in the game still |
