300-500Man Tournament

Ok Lets Start Out.
This is a college tournament between college students from all accross Ireland. We have around about 12hours to play that must include a 1hr break, a 30min break and 2x15min breaks so thats effectively 10hours (we can go a little longer but not much).

The buy in is for T10,000. 1rebuy or 1top up in the first 2hours (4blind levels) for another T10,000.

Starting Stack:
12x $25
7x $100
2x 500
3x $1000
1x $5000

Level Time= 30min

I wanted just to use the WSOP blind schedual but we cant really do ante's because we dont have dedicated dealers and we dont know how well each player will know the game. So What I have done is calculate the total cost per round of each level in the WSOP and work from there. (I dont know if i calculated it right but basically I added the small blind, big blind and then 8xante's. I think you only pay ante's when not in the blinds but I am not sure.)

Here is the proposed Blind Schedual:
25/50
50/100
100/200
150/300 *Remove $25*
200/400
300/600
400/800
500/1000
700/1400
1000/2000
1200/2400
1400/2800 *Remove $100*
1500/3000
2000/4000
2500/5000
3000/6000
3500/7000 *Remove $500*
5000/10000
7000/14000
8000/16000 *Remove $1000*

To Compair The WSOP CPR and My CPR see the table below (CPR= Cost Per Round)
wsop/me
75/75
150/150
300/300
500/450
650/600
1000/900
1150/1200
1500/1500
2000/2100
3100/3000
3400/3600
4000/4200
5400/4500
6000/6000
7700/7500
10000/9000
11500/11500
17000/15000
20000/21000
23000/24000

What do you guys think?
I think its a little harsh and not exactly what I would use if I were to just go myself but is it a good schedual?

Regards
Ian

Re: 300-500Man Tournament

harsh? definitely not...that schedule is 10 hours and you won't be close to done at that point...

i'd figure you don't finish until 75k/150k or so. 300 players X10,000 chips = 3 million in play.

headup, stacks will average 1.5 million (duh), so when the blinds are 75/150k-ish it'll finish.

Re: 300-500Man Tournament

Ok I have completely rejigged the blind lay out. We now have up to 36levels until midnight. Levels Start at 30min, then drop to 20min before dropping to 15min at the end. But they can be played with a bit if were running very short of time or we need it to last longer.

The blind Schedual and timings can be seen at this website(Thanks to Inventor for helping me out):
http://www.metalskullrobotics.nl/BlindSchedual.htm

We will continue with 10,000Starting Stack.

Assuming 500players and 500rebuys/top ups (wont happen but assume worst case that we have 10,000,000 in play) Then by the time we reach level 36 there are only 16.66big blinds in play. We reach the stage where 20big blinds=Total In Play at 23.30 but I reckon it will be finnished before that (we wont get Rebuys/Top Up's)

Does this seem better to all??

Thanks
Regards
Ian

Re: 300-500Man Tournament

I don't really see the value in having so many levels. In my 40-50 man monthly tournament I have cut back on the levels and extended the time and it works a lot better.Changing every 15 when you are still playing full tables can result in some players not posting at certain levels,a full 10 man table can take longer than 15 mins for a rotation, especially without dedicated dealers.
If I were you I'd stick to the 30min levels at least until the final table when you can get a dealer in and speed up the hands per hr.
Also 100xBB to start with so many players and re-buys is probably too much,50xBB would make things easier.
Just my .2c

Re: 300-500Man Tournament

Fewer levels and drop the starting stack:big blind ratio. You could have like 8 million in chips in play and you're going to need big blinds at the end to accomplish this. My schedule would look like

30 min rounds

50-100
100-200
150-300 remove 25 chips
200-400
300-600
400-800
600-1200 remove 100 chips
1000-2000
1500-3000 remove 500 chips
2000-4000
3000-6000
4000-8000 remove 1000 chips
6000-12000
10000-20000
15000-30000 remove 5000 chips
20000-40000
30000-60000
40000-80000
60000-120000 remove 10000 chips
100000-200000

This is 20 levels long so it would take exactly 10 hours to complete. There are no huge jumps, no doubling of the previous blinds, and it is a steady progression throughout. You could drop levels to 20 minutes in the later stages but I would leave them 20 the whole way.

And you really need to have a set structure to give the people at the beginning of the tourney. Changing blinds and/or level times after the tourney has started is not cool.

Couldn't agree more. Also we have worked out a back up plan. We are going to make sure that if say the venue is kicking us out at Midnight and it comes 11pm and we have 30players left. There's no way were finnishing in 1hr so we must move. We are going to arange with the local cassino to use their facilities to get the game finnished. They stay open till 7am, we will be finnished by then.

On my blind schedual are there any level jumps that seem a little too harsh or are they good in general??

Thanks
Regards
IAn

Re: 300-500Man Tournament

I think some of your levels are unnecessary, and I like to have a blanced schedule. I never use a 700-1400 level, a 3500-7000 level, or a 1400-2800 level. I actually think the schedule you first posted has too many levels, and the one I posted with fewer, more spread out, but still gradual and balanced levels is better.

Re: 300-500Man Tournament

I ran a tournament yesterday for 45-50people (not sure exact number). We used Big Kile's schedual with one or two changes. First off it was a 5k starting stack so we had a 25-50blind level. We also added in a 800-1600 level between the 600-1200 and 1000-2000 (we felt it was too big a jump). We also added a 8000-16000blind level. I believe this is the blind schedual we will use for the main tournament including my additional 8-16 (add relevant number of Zero's). It seems to be working out quite nicely in terms of time.

The tourney went well last night. I also have another one on friday and I will try this one at that event too.

Regards
Ian
