My home tournament has 12-15 regular players and some of us are interested in trying other games besides hold'em.

First of all, I would just make it a HORS tourny. Most of these guys have never played razz, and have only played stud when low card in the hole is wild--if you see my point.

Here's what I'm thinking about structurally:

Buy-ins would equal equivalent cash-to-chips: $15 = $15 in chips

Blinds would start at $.20/$.40 and double after every 4 rotations (instead of with each new game)

When we get down to 2-3 players (depending upon how many we start with) players would pocket the cash value of their stack and we'd start another tournament. This would be instead of playing down to 1 winner with set payouts. Since we would be playing for cash value, players could just pocket their stack value.

I'm also considering having $10 buy-ins (rather than $15) with (1) optional $10 rebuy or $5 add-on after the first complete rotation of games.

Personally, I like the game changing every blind level and playing down to a single winner. Especially in HORSE because with the game and stakes constantly changing your get a chance to really experience regular and short handed play at a variety of games.

For example, at a full table when the game is Stud I do a lot of folding since I have done very little reading on this game and am not so good at it, yet shorthanded I can play a lot better because what little knowledge I do have works a lot better against fewer opponents. Yet with Razz, I can play at a full table comfortably.

And you get a lot of variance like that with each different player so it can be a really fun time. I have never had a home game of HORSE though, I am basing this all on my limited number of games in the online realm. Good luck!
