Chips: 181 | | | Tournament Pay Out Structure Help Hey everyone, I was hoping to get some advice on what a typical pay out structure is for tournaments. I run an 8 person home game, tournament style, and am also looking to run a 20 person tournament. Does anyone know if there is a typical percentage breakdown for paying out, and if so, please enlighten me! Thanks for any help,

Or if you will have rebuys, I would pay fifth place their buy-in and then go 40/30/20/10.

Here's one you can try.... you only change the values in the blue cells in the spreadsheet. (you can tweak the values in the non-blue cells when you're done if you feel the need) http://home.comcast.net/~hachkc/tourney_setup_v3.xls
Good luck! |

Chips: 167 | | | Re: Tournament Pay Out Structure Help We do a tourney style as well in our home game. If we have fewer than 8, we pay top two, usually along the lines of 70/30. 8+, we'll pay top three, with third just getting his buy-in back.
For larger I would probably go with the same structure as Pokerroom's SnGs (which is where I usually play online):
20 players = top four payed, 40/30/20/10

Chips: 502 | | | Re: Tournament Pay Out Structure Help I took another members payout structure and tweaked to fit my needs. This is now my current structure:
Group 1...1-5 players...winner take all
Group 2...6-8 players...1st place 66.7%, 2nd place 33.3%
Group 3...9-14 players...1st place 57%, 2nd place 28%, 3rd place 15%
Group 4...15-20 players...1st place 51%, 2nd place 25%, 3rd place 14%, 4th place 10%
Group 5...21-30 players...1st place 46.75%, 2nd place 23.1%, 3rd place 13.75%, 4th place 9.25%, 5th place 7.15%
I made it so that the last paid spot will always get more than their buy-in (although not much more) and more importantly, I make sure that each player's payout would be at least equal to the previous group max player payout with a 2 player difference. For example, 1st place in a 16 player game (Group 4) would make at least as much as 1st place in a 14 player game (Group 3) and 1st place in a 22 player game (Group 5) would make at least as much as 1st place in a 20 player game (Group 4). So although 1st place will make a little less than the previous group max player payout with only a 1 player difference (i.e. 1st place in 14 player game would make more than 1st place in a 15 player game ) because of the additional payout spot being added, I make sure that this isn't the case with a 2 player difference.
