12 player Tournamnet help

Having a 12 player tournament this weekend any advice on a starting chip stack. I want to play a higher denomination game so the blinds will start at 25-50, but I do not want it to last a real long time maybe 3 hours. Once we have six left th other players start a small game. I was thinking about a T10,000 with 15 minute blinds, but I thought it might last to long. Anybody with a good starting stack for what I am after. Thanks

Re: 12 player Tournamnet help

We play a T5000, starting stack of (12) 25's, (12) 100's, (5) 500's and (1) 1000. The guys in my game prefer a lot of chips (they refuse to color up).

Our blinds are: 25/25, 50/100, 75/150, 100/200, 200/400, 300/600, 400/800, 500/1000, 750/1500, 1000/2000, 1500/3000.

We play 12 minute blinds and average 12-14 people per tournament. Our game lasts 2-21/2 hours. If you play 15 minute blinds, or even 20 minute blinds for the first hour and 15 minutes after that, it should last around 3 hours.

I make my blind increments increase dramatically after round 8. By that time everyone's had plenty of play and the people knocked out are sick of sitting around.

One question--you're not going to wait till you're down to six players to combine tables? We combine at 8 or 9. It makes for comfortable seating around the table, and lets the knocked out players start a cash game.

Re: 12 player Tournamnet help

This last weekend we played a 12 person tourney and we started out with 10,000 in chips with 15 minute blinds. The tourney lasted 3.5 hours. We used the WSOP 2006 blinds schedule http://www.homepokertourney.com/blinds-wsop.htm and it worked well.

Started out with 2 tables of 6, and went to a 9 person table once the numbers dictated it. Enjoy.

Are rebuys out of the question?

My guess is that 12 people with T-10,000 each (200 BB to start) is a lot to play through in three hours, but could happen with a really aggressive blind structure.

We do a T-5,000, either with starting stacks of 8 x 25, 8 x 100, 8 x 500 (ie 8/8/8 ); 8/13/7; or 12/12/7, depending on how many people are playing. But we have a pretty long rebuy period (5 levels) so our endgame will be different than a freezeout, and we experience considerable variance in the amount of time it takes to finish from week to week - usually anywhere from 3.5 to 5 hours.

I would think that a structure like this would finish the game in about three hours:

20-minute levels

25/50
50/100
100/200

200/400
300/600
400/800

15-minute levels

500/1000
1000/2000
1500/3000
2000/4000

There are also a lot of great structures already posted in this section of the forums. It would definately be worthwhile to do a search for structures geared toward a set of circumstances similar to yours, if you have not already.

Good luck, and keep us posted!
