3-Table, 27 Player Tournament

Hey everyone,

This is a sorta crosspost from HPT, but I wanted to see what the community here thought about this game and structure. The game will be NLHE with 27 players, paying out top 5 players.

Everyone will start with T5000 in one of the two following breakdowns:

16x T25
16x T100
4x T500
1x T1000

OR:

12x T25
12x T100
5x T500
1x T1000

The structure is relatively slow, and should allow for a lot of play.

40 minute levels
25-25-0
25-50-0
50-100-0
BREAK, 30 minute levels
75-150-0
100-200-0
100-200-25
150-300-25
BREAK
200-400-50
250-500-75
300-600-75
400-800-100
BREAK, Color up T25 chips
500-1000-100
600-1200-200
700-1400-200 (or 300) [might eliminate this level altogether]
800-1600-300
BREAK
1000-2000-400
1200-2400-400
1500-3000-500
2000-4000-500
BREAK, Color up T100 chips
2500-5000-500
3000-6000-1000
4000-8000-1000 (4-6% rule says tourney ends here)
5000-10000-1500

Payout Structure:
1st 40%
2nd 25%
3rd 15%
4th 12.5%
5th 7.5%
Totals 100%

Can anyone spot a deficiency anywhere here?

Thanks,
Jason

Re: 3-Table, 27 Player Tournament

I would love to play that structure. Looks like an all day deal, 8-10 hours (maybe 12).
A chance to play some REAL poker, without being forced to play every 3rd or 4th hand.

And welcome to another great forum

Re: 3-Table, 27 Player Tournament

I like the reworked blind schedule but I think your blinds increase a bit slowly but the ante's probably take care of that. Also, you are looking at a tournament that will go between 11-12 hours (not counting breaks); way to long IMHO but if that's what you want. This time is questionable because the 4-6% you comment on doesn't take into account ante's so it might be a bit shorter by a round or 2.

Personally, I'd accelarate the blind schedule myself. With the straight WSOP blind schedule, all rounds 30 mins and a T5000 stack, you end up around 8-9 hours for 27 players.

What's the buyin out of curiousity?

good luck with it

I agree, this will probably be a long game (not that thats a bad thing ). The antes will help move it along though. I run a 16 player game with a T1500 starting stack and somewhat similar blinds (no antes) and it last 3-4 hours.
JMHO... But I'd loose the 75-150 and 250-500 levels, adjust the breaks and start the $100 ante at the $300 level that way you don't need to worry about $25 chips and can color them up at the second break.

Good luck

Ranman

Re: 3-Table, 27 Player Tournament

The buyin has not been set yet, but will be between $40 and $60. My group is normally used to playing $15 and $25 buyin's, so this will be a big jump.

I will likely order pizza for this group to eat on the meal break (6 hour mark). I can take $5 from everyone for this with no problems, most likely, right?

I'm not going to make a single dime on this tournament...it's not like I'll be making a profit.

Jason

Re: 3-Table, 27 Player Tournament

This is an open tournament pretty much, but whoever is in the Tampa Bay, FL, area is open to let me know if they want to play.

It's not necessarily "taking" their money, it's buying your own food through a middleman!

Anytime you collect money that doesn't go into the payout, it can be questionable depending on various state laws. Realistically, you are not going to have a problem unless someone in the group decides to complain to the law about the game.

Now if you get a charitable gaming license, you can charge all sorts of money for "expenses" and such at least in MI. There was a post on HPT a week ago about someone running a "charity" game for 100 players and $50 buyin. The payout totaled up to like $2000; $50 x 100 = $2000 + "expenses/donations". Plus in MI, you can't pay more than $500 out for a prize which can lead to weird payouts for big events like: 1st-$500, 2nd-$490, 3rd-$480, etc.

Love the structure. Yeah, you could elim. that 700/1400/200 round. Good payouts too.

re: food: just tell everyone to bring an extra $5 for pizza if they want any. Always be able to say truthfully, "All monies paid out."
