I'm getting a 500 faux clays for my 8 person home game and the way I had it set up was each person gets the following.....

20 $25 = $500
20 $100 = 2000
3 $500 = 1500

For a total of $4000.00 With blinds starting at 25, 50
Accoring to the home poker tourney sight the tourney will ussally end when the big blind = the starting chip stack in this case $4,000.00 Is it nesesary for a $1,000.00 chip at that point or will $500.00 chips be ok???

The $500 chip will be fine as long as you have enough for colorups. I like to have as many different chips as possible so, i use the $1000 and $5000.

You will have a total of $32K in chips on the table. Head's up, using only $500 chips, that's 64 chips, not too many, IMO. If you allow rebuys, there will be more, so it's up to you.

If you have rebuys or think the tourney might go larger, I would get $1k and even a few $5k chip. What the heck, they're only faux clays: 100 x $1K and 50 x $5K is less than ten bucks.

you need a lot more chips. that's a pretty small stack of starting chips.

Uh... I imagine the reaction you'll get to this comment would be similar to walking into an NRA convention and yelling "Repeal the 2nd Amendment!".

Or maybe the reaction K-Fed would get if he walked into the 'hood claiming he has "street cred" as a rapper/hip hop artist...

The answer to the original question is (and always should be) "Of course you need more chips!"... even if you don't think so.

$4000 not enough starting chips with blinds starting at $25 and $50?? Poker stars gives you 75 x the big blind for single tables. I'm staring everyone with 80 times the big blind and with 20 minute levels the game should take over 4 hours....I think thats enough chips to start, don't you guys?? It dawned on me after I started this thread that although $500 chips might be okay with blinds at $2000.00 and $4,000.00 that if someone raised the pot it might be a little much so I think I'll need a $1,000.00 chip.

If someone raised the pot with blinds at 2K/4K and 32K on the table they're most likely all-in. I think you have plenty of chips and starting stack/blind ratio is ok. People always want to color up the 100's in my game, I don't have enough 500's to go around, I say, what's wrong with having a nice stack in front of you (not huge)?
