I have already sent out the invitations which list the blinds, starting chip stacks, etc. So am not looking for advice on what other formats to use at this point.
What I do need advice for is what to buy for backup chips. I use nex gens so it's not going to bread the bank. Looking for advice on what denoms and how many and why.

With that structure you should only need $1 and $5 for color up. You can buy .25 and .5 from people with lots of them.
How many? Just have enough $1's to color all the .10 and half the .25. Use $5 to color the rest.
edit: don't bother to color the $1, you probably won't need to. Of course, get any "odd" $5 chips out on the felt but don't worry about removing all of the $1

color the two racks of dimes and one of the racks of quarters with $1. Color the other rack of quarters and all the 0.50 with $5. You'll have to do a little "buying" come color up time but it's the way I do it anyway.
rack of dimes = $10
rack of quarters = $25
rack of fiddies = $50
