Tournament Schedule (using 1,5,25,100 chips)

OK, so I should be having 600 NJ chips pretty soon. I want to have my friends over for a tournament to break them in and see how we like the chips before I spend $100 for another set for customizing to have a cash game/tournament set. The breakdown that I will have is 2 standard sets so:

Probably 8 players or so.

Available Chips
200 - $1
200 -$5
100 - $25
100 - $100

Start with 15-$1, 7-$5, 6-$25, 2-$100

I'm thinking to do a T400 w/ 1-2 blinds to start. I'd like it over in about 3 hours or so.

1-2
2-4
3-6 1hr (lose the $1)
5-10
10-20
15-30 2hr
25-50
35-70
50-100 3hr
75-150
125-250 (this should close it)

Any thoughts?

Re: Tournament Schedule (using 1,5,25,100 chips)

Personally I think a T400 with 1-2 starting blinds is too many chips. A T200 (dropping the starting 100's) would be more chips than you would need (especially with 8 players only). Using those denominations, I would probably run a T150, and use your blinds except with these additions

1-2
2-4
3-6
5-10
8-16
10-20
(maybe a 12-24 here)
15-30
20-40
25-50 (I would guess the tourney would end during this level)
30-60
35-70

I would use this structure for anything between T100 and T200.

Re: Tournament Schedule (using 1,5,25,100 chips)

My buddy at work and I both have standard NJ sets from PSO as well, and generally we run tourneys from 5-8 people so I'll just tell you what we do.

Everyone starts with T1300 broken down thusly:

10 - $5
10 - $25
10 - $100

See, 10 of each - makes it real easy to count out initially and after each tourney. You could also give everyone 12 black to make T1500.

Blinds are generally like this:

10/20
20/40
30/60
50/100
75/150
100/200
150/300
200/400 (usually long over by now)
300/600

Our tourneys are structured to last 1 - 2 hours at most, we go with 15 min. blinds since we're more often playing with 5 than 8.
If you feel T1500 isn't enough, you can use 1s in that set as T1000 to start with T2500.

The problem with those sets is that you can't really do a tourny that uses $1 chips and $100 chips very easily. I would have preferred they be 150 red, 100 green, 50 black for tourneys or a set up specifically for a small cash game.

Mike

Re: Tournament Schedule (using 1,5,25,100 chips)

Thanks for the advice guys.

I ended up doing a 9 handed rebuy tournament. T200 to start, Rebuys when broke or below T100 chips. T100 add on at the end of the rebuy period. 20 minute levels. Coloring up wasn't too bad (though I wish I could get rid of the 8/16 level easily).

We ended up with T4200 in play at the end of the night. Kind of small for a rebuy, but I think my friends enjoyed being able to buy back in/reload their stacks so everyone could play without completely fearing busting out. It was a small buyin (just 5 to start/rebuy and 2 to add on)

Blinds that I used were:
1/2
2/4
3/6
5/10 (end of rebuys)
8/16
10/20
15/30
20/40
30/60
50/100
75/150 ended here.
100/200

Re: Tournament Schedule (using 1,5,25,100 chips)

Very similar to what we do. T200 20x1, 16x5, 4x25 = 40 starting chips, Single Rebuy per person 8x25 - no add on.

1-2
2-4
3-6
4-8 color up 1s
5-10 end of rebuy
10-20
15-30
20-40 color up 5s
25-50
50-100 usually done by here

Only variation if someone is late - we blind them off, but keep the 1-2 round at 30 minutes and elimate the 3-6 round - otherwise all rounds 15 min.
