I am looking to host a small 12 person game this weekend and thought I was all set until i started considering the payout.

I will reward the 1st and 2nd player.

Silly question here:
In the following scenario, 1 big stack 2 lesser stacks (3 people left). Final hand is dealt all are committed and big stack wins.

How do you determine who came in second as both were eliminated on the same hand??

Whoever had the 2nd biggest stack.

Losing player with the most chips entering the hand would be awarded 2nd.

With 12 players you should consider paying out 3 spots.

I concur. You should pay out 3 spots for 12 players.

Pay 3 spots, 50%, 30% , 20%. That is a much better format.
