My T10,000 Structure

Hey guys I'm hosting our monthly 12 man tournament this month and I have convinced everyone to start with 10,000 in chips instead of the usual 2,500 we started with so here is my structure let me know how you think this will work. Any suggestions and when do you think the tournament will end? Its a $150 buy in tournament.

Chips Breakdown

20 - Red $25
20 - Blue $100
13 - Green $500
1 - Black $1,000
0 - Yellow $5,000

Blinds

1 (30min) 50/100
2 (30min) 75/150
3 (20min) 100/200
4 (20min) 150/300
BREAK COLOR UP $25 CHIPS
5 (20min) 200/400
6 (20min) 300/600
7 (20min) 400/800
BREAK COLOR UP $100 CHIPS
8 (20min) 500/1000
9 (20min) 1000/2000
10 (20min) 1500/3000
11 (15min) 2000/4000
12 (15min) 3000/6000
13 (15min) 4000/8000

Re: My T10,000 Structure

No antes? I like using them, on average about 1/8 of the big blind. The rest looks good, although that is a rather large jump from level 8 to level 9.

Re: My T10,000 Structure

With a $150 buy-in I would do something like this:
Level .... Blinds
1 ........ 50-100
2 ....... 100-200
3 ....... 150-300
Remove $25 chips
4 ....... 200-400
5 ....... 300-600
6 ....... 400-800
7 ....... 600-1200
8 ....... 800-1600
9 ....... 1200-2400
Remove $100 chips
10 ..... 1500-3000
11 ..... 2000-4000
12 ..... 3000-6000... Should end here
13 ..... 4000-8000
14 ..... 5000-10000

With 30 minute levels the blinds will double every hour and will allow some use of skill. The game will last approx 6 hours.

Re: My T10,000 Structure

That schedule looks good to me, but I prefer longer tourneys than the usuall crapshoot when the blinds skyrocket up. Especially when its a $150 buyin

Re: My T10,000 Structure

Looks identical to the blinds we use. Our avergae tournament goes about 5 hours with the shortest being 3 hours and the longest being 7 1/2 hours.

We have more 1000 chips in play as it tends to speed the game up a bit

Re: My T10,000 Structure

In my opinion and experience, you have way too many $25s in your starting stack. Once you color them up, you have lots of chips that just sit in their racks most of the night. It's a pain to manage big stacks of small chips. Most of the players use the $25s just for blinds and limps, so you only need 8 to start. Most of the betting tends to use the $100s once things get started. Now, your guys might like to push around big stacks of $25s, but we find it slows down the game to always be counting out lots of small chips.

So do you want that huge stack of 54 chips, or could you start with fewer?

Here's the most frugal T$10,000 stack -- you don't have to buy nearly as many chips, and/or you can get more players for your chip set.
8 x $25
13 x $100
7 x $500
5 x $1,000
33 chips each, a decent stack.

Or you could go for larger stack like this, but you have to have more chips for the same amount of players.
8 x $25
18 x $100
12 x $500
2 x $1,000
40 chips each.

Re: My T10,000 Structure

I like the starting chip count. Lots of chips! This is a mental thing for me. The ony thing I see different from mine, is that I do away with the 150/300 Round and take a break and color up. Plus after almost and hour and a half, most guys are ready to get up from the table for a few minutes.

Good luck!

What blind schedule do you use with T-2,500 starting stacks? Do you play with twelve people at one table or two tables of six?
