Unable to find good structure for ~2 hours tourney

Unable to find good structure for ~2 hours tourney

- Between 5 to 10 players
- We want to play multiple games, about 2 1/2 hours each
- The starting stack always change because of the chip breakdown T100, T1500, T5000, T10000

Everytime, the first game is too long, and half player left because they are tired to wait for the second game

I use the poker tournament manager, and the only way i find a structure is to use 5% of starting stack for the first blind, but it looks like to much (15/30 for 1000 starting chips, you raise 3xBB and you put 10% of your stack)

Any logical way to find a good blind structure???

I tried to apply http://www.homepokertourney.com/blinds.htm but the blind structure is to weird

Sample: T200, 1$/5$/10$, 2 hours, 20 minutes levels
2-4 5-10 10-20 25-50 50-100 100-200

Thanks!

Re: Unable to find good structure for ~2 hours tourney

If you're trying to keep it to 2 hours, you're doomed to a pretty early crapshoot no matter what you do. I would recommend using one of the SnG structures from the online sites. Those usually last 1 to 1.5 hours, but you'll be slower since you don't have a computer doing the shuffling. As a kind of rule of thumb, by that 2 hour mark, the BB should be about the amount of chips you started with. So if you start with 1000, shoot for that 2 hour level to be 500-1000.

Re: Unable to find good structure for ~2 hours tourney

my 10 man games go that length

10k.
15 minute rounds

big blinds
50
100
150
200
300
400
600
1000
1400
2000
3000

if that goes too long, skill the 300 round. if that takes too long, skip the 600 round.

Re: Unable to find good structure for ~2 hours tourney

Does it make sense (20 15 and 10 minutes blinds)

They should last 2h30

100-200 15min
200-400 15min
300-600 15min
500-1000 15min
1000-2000 15min
2000-4000 15min
3000-6000 15min

T1500 2.5 hours (15 * 5$ + 17 * 25$ + 10 * 100$)
10-20 20min
15-30 20min
25-50 15min
50-100 15min
100-200 15min
200-400 15min
300-600 15min
500-1000 15min
1000-2000 15min

T100 2.5 hours (15 * 1$ + 17 * 5$)
.5-1 20min
1-2 20min
2-4 15min
4-8 15min
5-10 15min

Re: Unable to find good structure for ~2 hours tourney

I've tweaked our T4500 structure many times to get it to be consistently around 2 hours. (blinds start at 25/50)

Basically, we have 15minute blind levels. The way I tweaked our structure was to have the blinds increase slowly for the first hour (so everyone feels like s/he's getting his money's worth). After this, the rate of progression increases more radically, until, after 2 hours, the blinds go up very radically.

25/50
50/100
100/200
150/300

200/400
300/600
400/800
500/1000

1000/2000
2000/4000

Re: Unable to find good structure for ~2 hours tourney

IMO, there's nothing wrong with changing the level times as you progress. I do it in my game. First 6 levels are 20 min., next 4 are 15 min., and then it's 10 min. from there on out. I try to keep my game in a 3-4 hour window and this has done the trick while allowing me to use a less harsh progression of the blinds.

We use something very similar using 15 minute levels, and we change the length of the game by changing the starting stack sizes, NOT the blind levels. Once you find a blind structure that everyone likes, where they do not feel rushed nor do they feel bored waiting for action, it is easier to reduce the starting chips if you want a quicker game, or increase the chip stacks to make it last longer.

We use T1000 if we want to be done in ~90 minutes, T1500 for ~120 minutes, and T2000 for ~150 minutes while using the exact same blind structure.

if you raise 3xBB at the first hand, you will put 15% of your stack on the table? shorter tournament but isn't too much radical?
